Cheap indeed! I remember being slightly astounded in Glasgow recently when a bunch of us put £20 each into a kitty - a good half dozen or so drinks later, there was still money in the kitty. That'd barely buy 4 drinks each in Aberdeen.

Living in the north must really just ruin me price wise, or maybe its because I don't live in one of the major northern cities. There is a pub down the road that is currently advertising pints for £2.10! I don't really drink, so it's the price of coke that matters to me, which again is 99% of the time more expensive than where I usually get it from, the markets :p

That's cheap! I'm in.
Milton Keynes must have gotten expensive...!

"You Brits" eh? I'm not averse to some Kopparberg, but I rather dislike Rekorderlig. I much prefer a good Old Rosie! Then again, I am from proper cider country, Somerset.

So, 29th of July it is. You can sign up here, and I'll add more content to the wiki page once we have things decided.

I'll start a new topic as is customary for further discussion shortly.

Coming, will be looking at a hotel shortly (after payday probably). As for getting there, I shall be on the train. I'm willing to meet up with people in Manchester first if anyone is heading that way, or if some people are flying into Manchester (as Brum doesn't have as many destinations/flights), I'm happy to meet people at the Airport, and to go from there.

Also oddly enough, the day after my payday.

I can't get used to this crazy payday structure. Thanks for the reminder.

I now get paid on the first working day after (or including) the 20th - it used to be the last working day up to (and including) the 15th. I put everything on a credit card anyway and pay it off at the end of the month so it's mostly irrelevant when I get paid, as long as I do!

I get paid last Thursday of each month, so I should be getting paid just before the meet  That's just an excuse to get absolutely wasted in the evening

How strange. I'm paid on a fixed date, 25th, every month. If that happens to fall on a weekend, I'm paid the friday before that. So, Sunday the 25th would mean my salary comes Friday the 23rd.

I used to have that set up in my old job (except the 28th was the date). Now though it seems to be on a 4 weekly cycle which is less convenient as everything else I pay for is on a monthly basis. Hey ho.

Hi orudge,

Question for you .. what is involved with these meeting. Being in Australia unfortunately not able to attend your meetings in UK.

Wonder if other Australian would like to have meetings like your doing here in Australia?

Maybe other countries could have their own meetings too?

Cheers

Garry

I actually quite like the 4-weekly cycle (it's the same in TOC and TfL; must be a railway thing; although which week of the railway period varies according to TOC!). It does mean that I get one paycheck that I don't have to pay rent or mortgage out of (kinda like a bonus; I'm looking forward to March!), and because each paycheck is exactly the same length with exactly the same number of weekends, I can allocate the same amount of spending money to each month. (Bills of course as you say, are all over the place).

The other interesting thing is how February 29th is paid. On a monthly pay cycle, your pay for the 29th gets effectively quartered and distributed across all 4 years (hence the notion that workers 'don't get paid' for the 'extra' day). In the railways on a 4-weekly cycle, you actually get paid for the 29th when you work it, since your pay is actually calculated from each day you work.

Generally we meet up in a pub and chat. Often there is a transport-related activity or two too. A few years ago we had a special guest join us and give us a preview of the TT mobile app, which was quite fun.

You are of course welcome to organise a meet in Australia, or anywhere else. There was an unofficial Sydney meet in 2011 when I was visiting - we went to a transport museum, several pubs, and went bowling in the evening - much beer was consumed, and I think we all had a great day!
