Language packs installed

Post by orudge »

Those users who have been around since the phpBB 2.0 days may remember that we used to have a variety of forum language packs installed for users whose native language was not English. With the final release of phpBB 3.0, language packs have now been made available for the new version. I have currently installed packs for the following languages, which you can access from your User Control Panel if desired:
  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • Chinese (simplified)
  • Chinese (traditional)
  • Czech
  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • French
  • German
  • Hungarian
  • Italian
  • Norwegian (Bokmål)
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Spanish
  • Swedish
If anybody would like another language listed here to be added, please let me know.

Please remember that, despite the user interface being made available in multiple languages, all posts must be made in English.

Good work Owen. :)

However if I would like to read the forum in proper Klingon. :) Is that language pack also available? :)

Any chance of you dropping the swear filter again, and just having it enabled as default*?

Just that "sh/ithole" doesn't come across the same when it just reads "s***"

Especially in the context:

"Brierley Hill is a s***"

... Not quite what I had in mind.

* That way I don't see what changes for the majority of forum users.

I'm sure a lot of people would prefer it if you just didn't swear at all. There is almost never a need for these things.

Also, go Klingon!

I don't quite get what you mean by that. The swear filter is enabled by default. You can choose to turn it off if you like, but it's on by default.

Indeed not. Perhaps you should just not swear instead? ;)

Must be some bug then. I've got the swear filter off but it's still censoring most words.

I am trying to halt my language just for you, Owen, I am.

Ah, that could be the reason for the commit to the phpBB CVS repository which involved the swear filter. If that's the case, it'll probably be fixed in phpBB 3.0.1.

Your attempt at abstaining from swearing is appreciated. :)

There was an air of comedy in my post.

I'm not really changing my language for the forum. I'm as bad as ever.

Switch your sense of humour radar on Spiff, eh?

Schweet, but I don't see the point in that. If someone doesn't understand texts like "Submit" or "Reply", he won't understand the postings either.
A German UI could probably trick me into posting in german, however.

Well, yes, that is a point, and one that I believe was argued previously - however, we seemed to be able to work fine for a few years with multiple language packs without too many people posting in other languages.
