Original TTD map size

Hello everyone ! I've been searching for this information on various places with no luck...

I'm playing openttd on a tiny tiny screen, and I can't figure if the maps I generate are huge or small ! I was wondering what was the size of the maps when it was generated by the dos versions of Transport Tycoon ? 256x256 ? 512x512 ?
I just wanna know so when I switch to a normal size screen my game won't look ridiculously big/small

The original TTD map size is 256x256, I'm pretty sure.

It's pretty hard to figure out due to the different resolution ! I was gonna play a 256x256 map anyway, I get lost in a 512x512 map in my mini PC
