is it possible to have, for instance, a lorry depot at a bank (due to lack of space for anything else), take the valuables to an airport a short distance away, then fly the goods to the other town which has a bank, and then take the valuables another short dstance to the other lorry depot beside the new bank?

Welcome to the forums duffnut.

You need a "transfer and leave" empty order for the vehicle delivering the cargo to the airport and the same when the aircraft delivers at the second airport. The last vehicle in the chain uses an unload order when reaching final destination.
If you do a transfer and load order the cargo will go back into the first vehicle instead of the aircraft ...
