Vista Installation Guide?

I apologise for being extremely annoying by asking what is probably an already much asked question.

Vista is making the game a pain in the ass to install correctly, with the patch, i've tried a number of ways:

One way ends up with no patch, because it reckons it needs the cd.
Another ends up jsut black screening.

Another just plain didn't work.


So i was wondering if any kind soul would offer me a simple Step-By-Step guide for installing on vista.
Preferably including links to good places where i can redownload the game from.

There is no patch for TT.

But I supposed you meant TTD and TTDPatch? In that case, be more specific about what you have done, and what happens. Do you have the TTD cd? If not, you won't get very far.

That's the other forums. Here, we can just gesture at the "list of download locations" topic and say "Go download it."

Then you need to do one thing or another thing or another thing. If you can manage to be more descriptive about the "ways" that don't work, we can be more descriptive about the "things" that will fix those "ways".

Well the latest attempt has produced a CD Request. Which I don't have.

I got this version from Owens Transport Tycoon Station.

I downloaded the version for windows, 2000/XP etc. Which includes two different set ups. One for TTD, one for TTDPatch.

I installed TTD first, then installed the patch, both to the same directory.

On Vista, When you try to play the game at this point, it fails as it asks for a "dplay.dll" file.
From anothe website, i was told to find "dplayx.dll", copy it into the directory and rename it to "dplay.dll".
This works, and the game doesn't ask for that file, but instead asks for a cd.

Leaving me puzzled...


Surely i won't need to upload a virtual CD image to a virtual drive?
I bought the game originally way back when, but it's long lost in the loft now.

Assistance appreciated greatly.

This works, and the game doesn't ask for [dplay.dll], but instead asks for a cd.

Please look at the TTDPatch FAQ. (http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php?page=FAQ)

While you're on the TTDPatch website, get a more recent version of TTDPatch; the one on Owen's site is ancient. 2.5 beta 9 is probably right for you.

I downloaded 2.9 Beta 9 as you suggested and it still asks for a CD...

My advise is to read the FAQ given by DaleStan more carefully, especially this question + answer: http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php ... xe_CD_quot_

"If this is in the Windows version of TTD, you need to turn on the ((Windows 2000/XP|win2k)) patches.
Otherwise, check the line in the configuration file for the CD path. It should read "cdpath D:\" where D is the letter of your CD drive."


When searching for info of compatibility for win200/xp. I am asked to use a file called win2k? To activate a switch?


I have no file win2k.cfg or anything like it, i have a switches.xml, but how do i use it?


I do appologise for my mistake not spotting the faq question on the site, and i appreciate this help A LOT.

I'm afraid I can't be of any more help, since I don't know TTDPatch much better then you do.

Change the cd path in the .cfg as mentioned above. That should do it.

I've done that. But it also didn't work.

At first i thought i wasn't saving it as a new .cfg, but i definately have.



Really annoyed.
