1. How the script works
Technology Advancement (TEAD) is a game script which changes the
availability of technology: rail, road, water, air. The script allows to
start at a certain technology year, slow down or speed up the technology
advancement or unlock all technology. Supports any combination of NewGRF.
The script only modifies the availability of vehicles. Other aspects of
the game are not affected, for example: airport availability, engine
reliability, oil rig date...
The way this script works is that the technology date is separated from
the game date, so it can advance at different speed or be paused
completely. Based on this date, new vehicles are released or old are
shelved.
The release date of vehicles is given by their release date parameter.
The retirement date is based on the lenght of the model life based on
vehicle type: locomotive, wagon, road vehicle, ship, plane.
The reliability of vehicles is not affected by releasing a vehicle early
or later, so outside its normal (game date) release, the reliability is
practicaly unusable, so turning off breakdowns is highly recommended and
set at the start of the script.
2. Settings
Game settings
- "Limitations/Vehicles never expire": enables all vehicles till the
actual technology date; overwrites any vehicle retirement functionality;
can be modified mid game
Game script
- "Speed of technology date advancement": specifies the speed of
advancing technology date compared to game date (1 game day =
x technology day); can be modified mid game
- "Enable all technology": enables all technology from the start and
never expire them
- "Technology year at game start (0=game year)": sets the technology date
to a specified year; when set to 0, the game year at start of the game is
selected
- "Do not retire technology after this technology year (0=always retire)":
stops shelving vehicles that have retirement date after this year, so
the vehicles dont die out; when set to 0, all vehicles retire normally
- "Number of years a rail engine will be purchasable (0=always
purchasable)": the number of years a locomotive will be purchasable since
its introduction; when set to 0, never expire
- "Number of years a rail wagon will be purchasable (0=always purchasable)
": the number of years a wagon will be purchasable since its
introduction; when set to 0, never expire
- "Number of years a road vehicle will be purchasable (0=always
purchasable)": the number of years a road vehicle will be purchasable
since its introduction; when set to 0, never expire
- "Number of years a ship will be purchasable (0=always purchasable)":
the number of years a ship will be purchasable since its introduction;

- "Number of years a plane will be purchasable (0=always purchasable)":

- "Debug: Log level (higher = print more)": Info = minimum prints;
Verbose = listed all vehicles, vehicle released/retired, actual
technology year; Debug = ticks used for various operations; can be

- OpenTTD, v. 1.10.x or newer
- GS SuperLib, v. 40 (you can find it on BaNaNaS, also accessible through
OTTD's "Online Content").
4. Limitations
The game script is limited at the time of writing by these factors:
- only vehicles can be enabled/disabled by game script
- vehicle reliability is not relevant to technology date, using no
breakdowns is almost mandatory
- the game script cannot access model life parameter of vehicles, so a
fixed model life has to be selected
- the technology speed is modified in game script settings; story book
buttons are currently worked on, which will allow better control over the
speed
- enabling new vehicles by game script command does not trigger new
vehicle news
