hmm...

good thing you warned me at this point...
Would have taken a lot of work to get it all back to just grass

with just grass, I take it you do also mean the tracks (they are the same but have different grass around them) and the rocks, etc ? :)

do they use the same man grf file? So you just have to copy over the grf file? or mod it a bit? 8)

For shadow, maybe the product could be released ad a number of .exe files - TTOland.exe, TTOTrees.exe, etc. so that people could include whatever they want.

You cannot just overwrite the deluxe .grfs as they have more features (eg. more vehicles, bridges, climates, etc.)

Why are you going to all this trouble. What is so much better?

Why not?
Some people prefer the original graphics.

Maybe make a grf with all the TTO vehicles (I know, it's the same, only with less) so people with XP/2k can play TTO!

hmm

Well currently i've been doing some experiments with the monorail graphics.

TTO uses remapable colors on the monorail tracks, but these are impossible in TTD, so making out to who the tracks belong was a bit hard with for example green fences but blue tracks :)

I have repainted the remapable parts in a grayish color.
The attached pic is the result.

The second problem with the tracks was the fact that TTO used transparancy around the tracks, so the sprites didn't contain any grass information.
Copying the tracks onto a grass tile was quite hard to do because the program I use for this (I-Mage) doesn't have lasso and wand tools :(

Tell me what this is like.
Then I can continue doing the conversion of the other pieces of track :)

Like Prof Frink said, some people may like the original graphics more...
I definately do :)

It's just... Retro

Oh yes!

I love the TTO monorail track!

Don't forget the grey depots...

I'll take that if it's in separate files.

Eh? Remappable? Why is this different to the player-colour mappings?

Just use the shades of blue, which are replaced by its owner color.

Well...
I have no idea...
But I've tried recoloring it with the remappable colors...
and it didn't work...
Even when I took the purple company color (eww) it was still blue...

--EDIT--

I am going to implement the monorail depot now, and make the exe file for just that depot.
But the button for the depot will still be the red one, because TTD uses one button for all depots :(
Same counts for the cursor...

right

after 2 hours of editing 2 small irritating sprites (and chatting @ #tycoon  ) I still don't have the depots working...

It's not that hard...

But I keep messing up my NFO files

I'll do it tomorrow, seeing as I now know WHAT and HOW :D

--Question--
How do you see if you messed up your NFO files?

--Answer--
Attached
That looks like a sweet language to learn

You were using the right blues, yes? IIRC, player colours are the blues between 198-207 on the palette, not the others.

Well I think I used the right ones but I could give it another try...

And it's a bit of a shame that TTD will build fences around the monorail tracks :(

And as you can see, I'm getting closer to solving the NFO problem

--EDIT--
I could ofcourse make all the fences invisible by recoloring them with the r0 g0 b255 color... But that would make it hard to see to whom the other tracks belong...

<UNLESS> I draw fences on their sides ( )

Right...

I'm starting a new post so it's a bit easier to see for those who have already read the other messages :)

I'm going to restart the set...

Simply because grfcodec has broken a lot of sprites.. (ofcourse it's my fault :) )

I wasn't really that far yet anyhow so I should be back to where I was at the start...
It would also make it easier for me to make the EXE/GRF files :)

so...
This afternoon I should be able to release some first parts of the set :)

Right back from school, have to go back @ 2:30 PM... :)

Sooo I reloaded the original TRG1R.GRF and started experimenting with the monorail tracks...

It really does not work:

As you can see the grass isn't converted yet
But you can also see my company color is pink, yet the tracks are still blue...

The first package will be done soon, and it will include the landscape, which is:

-TTO Grass
-Tracks
-Roads

and it will also include the edited cursors, because it would be sloppy to have cursors that look totally different than the stuff they build

Currently having fun making the Tunnels...
Why did CS make one of the sprites one pixel bigger in TTD than in TTO ? :(

I'm getting better at the work...
In a lot of places, the sprites in the TTO pcx file are placed exactly the same as the TTD ones, but not always...
So where I used to copy every sprite, I can now copy more than one sprite at a time...
Works most of the time :)

But the things I really like to do is edit the stuff that's new in TTD, (like the mag-lev tracks!), because that really requires you to draw stuff :)

By the way...
I have recolored the monorail with a blue-ish purple-ish metallic color...
It looks quite good if you ask me... I'll post a pic soon :)
