Re: [OTTD] Jake's Random Screenshots

On a cold, and wintery January morning in 1925, Jake Grimshaw began a small transport company in South Eastern Germany. Having recieved a small loan of €200 000, they set about connecting the various villages of the country. As it was seen that the moutainous villages were not that profitable, early construction was aimed at the low-lying areas. After the initial admin was put out the way (attachment 1 & 2), an initial route was built between Mühldorf and Waldkraiburg. By May of that year, the first BR 38 locomotive hauled its way into the station for the first time. (Yes I know, those germans can build incredibly fast  )

Although not hugely profitable, the demand by locals led to another local passenger service being introducted between the towns of Altötting and Burghausen (Attachment 1). Having realised the waste of money that the electrifying the first railway so early was, they decided to halt this electrifying half way through, as can be seen. In order to get some money coming in, a coal route was proposed in the area, servicing a mine just the the east of Waldkraiburg (Attachment 2). After several months of profit, this was later joined by a neighbouring coal mine running to the same power station, outside Ebersberg (Attachment 3).

Something else a bit different. It is a random thread after all ;) A few screenshots of the journey from a Forest to a Printing Works on one of my maps. Not that exciting you may say, but with a mountain chain as an obstacle, it is quite a journey.

1. Overview of the route. The forest is labelled with the pink arrow in the mountains to the west of the map, the paper mill where the wood is turned to paper shown as the arrow with the P, and the arrow in the SE of the map shows the printing works. Orange lines signify where the cargo is taken by train, and light green shows lorry transport.

2. From the town of Puchberg am Schneeburg, a narrow gauge mountain railway was built up to the nearby peaks in the early part of the century. From this, a small extension was made both to the line and to the station in order to facilitate the nearby forest. In the present day, the two platform station can accomodate both the push/pull steam train that whisks hikers/skiers/cyclists up to the peaks, and the diesel train that will collect our wood. This forms the first part of our journey, the steep descent from Puchberg forest down into the village. From here, lorries will arrive to collect the wood stored at the station and transport them to the paper mill at Neunkirchen.

3. Neunkirchen, an important transport centre at the confluence of two rivers housing the merger of the two branches of the mainline, mainline sidings and wood/paper hub. Our lorries enter the area from the road to the west that winds up towards Puchberg, and then unload at the paper mill. From here, another batch of lorries will arrive to pick up the processed paper. Then, they negate the quadruple level crossing at continue east, towards Schieblingkirchen and beyond.

Thanks. We continue..

4. Our lorries, having left Neunkirchen, must begin another ascent high into the mountains. Although we cannot traverse the mountain chain, we can save the trains a job by carrying it as far up the valleys as we can (although the locals may not like it  ). Here we see the settlement of Edlitz, stationed in a sunny spot at the foot of the mountains. The many of the mainline trains from Neunkirchen stop here, which has helped the former alpine village expand. Our lorries must annoy the locals to travel through here laden with paper.
5. How to get our paper across the mountains? Here's the answer. Just SE of Aspang Markt, a tiny village surrounded by peaks on three sides, a basis tunnel (the Monichkirchen tunnel) was constructed in the 1950s in order to take the express mainline through the mountains. It was here a branch line was created in order to help ferry freight (our paper) from lorries onto a shuttle train to the other side of the mountain chain.
6. As we emerge at the south portal of the Monichkirchen tunnel, our train immediately dives into the freight depot. This small siding allows our paper to be unloaded from the train and loaded onto lorries to make the final leg of it's journey to the printing works in Maria Grein am Brenner. Also in the area is the ski resort of Monichkirchen, from which the basis tunnel took it's name.

Back to Alpine Transportation Ltd...

1. An overview of the network to show how expansion has picked up pace in the 8 years since my last screenshot.

2. The original Wassenburg/Rosenheim line has now been extended to connect with the new 'main line', which now encorporates coal trains from the lines that opened back in 1925, and passenger trains.

3. Here we see how the new 'main line' concept has affected the town of Waldkraiburg. The initial line from here to Muhldorf will become a branch line once the mainline has been connected to Salzburg further east.

Here's a few shots from a map I am making and playing at the same time..

1) One of the lakes up in the mountains, with waterfall.
2) And another..
3) An attempt at a harbour in one of the larger cities. Those corner tiles aren't half annoying.

Unfortunately, I am using an old version of the Infrastructure Sharing patch, which does not support NewObjects.

One more for now...

Power station, where trucks unload coal and oil, and a train will (eventually) unload coal.

Something different again, this time a random-map UK steam game with Chill's Patchpack. Here we have Nuneaton Parkway, the busiest part of the network at the moment. Also home to Nuneaton Albion FC, who are currently lying second in the regions football league.
