One of the things always bothering me in OpenTTD is that I keep losing aircraft, and if I let the game roll on itself for a few minutes, I'll have to check my list of aircraft, to check I haven't lost one.
As I'm not at all a hero with c++, I'll have to ask someone to create a patch that automatically 'clones' a crashed aircraft, and sends it out again..
Personally i'd say a patch that made aircraft crash less would be good, as it is currently about one in a thousand chances, whereas in reality it's like one in 14 million, It's about the same as the british lottery, the odds of it.
Never been a fan of the idea personally. Every form of transport should have its positives and negatives (granted, the balance between all 4 is almost non-existant atm), but planes are just about all positives.
Id rather someone create some sort of new interface for tracking planes and crashes (rather than just a news message and a wreck that disappears way too fast), but still require *some* effort to keep running effectively.
Of course, theres nothing to stop someone making a patch...
A good idea might be to remove the crashed vehicle from the "world", but to keep the crashed vehicle in the vehicle list, until you have decided what you will do with it. That is, either replace it or scrap it. Maybe the buttons on the right hand side of the vehicle window (where the send-to-depot button is) can be used to do this.

A very good idea in fact!! This should be the same for all vehicle types, of course. I encourage someone to try and make a patch for this.
Instead of writing a patch for auto-rebuild crashed aircrafts, write a AI based on the noAI branch.
But the idea to keep crashed aircrafts in the vehilce list has advantages too.

Me too
With almost 500 planes in a 1024*1024 map, i have a disaster every month in year 2014.. If i don't save often and see if planes aren't missing i lost a bunch of them real fast...

Try the link in my signature, it doesn't disable them, but it brings it down to what I feel is a bit more realistic (1 in a million). It doesn't come up as an option, I don't know how to make it come up as an option yet. But hopefully sometime soon I will.
