There's nothing stopping people from noting the type & version of the game (e.g. OpenTTD; 0.4.7) used to create a savegame, however many people simply do not. This can cause problems when trying to view savegames especially in older threads.
I propose a specific savegame upload option (either explicit, or triggered by the savegame extension on upload) that prompts for the game type (e.g. TTDPatch, OpenTTD, etc) and associated version. None of this should be mandatory (because in some cases the context of the post is sufficient) but it would encourage people to think about submitting this information when posting a savegame they want people to look at in the future.
Alternatively, and this is something I'm not knowledgable about, but perhaps the savegame format already contains this information, and there's some way to extract it?
Proposal: specific savegame attachment - type/version fields
