<request> Advanced ttdpatch RVs

Post by comrade-max »

i was wondering if theyre is an effort to add articulated RVs and Trams to Ottd, these are two important features which i feel give Ttd patch a small edge over ottd. I would like to see these in ottd, anywho just wondering if anyone is/would attempt to code these. i realise it is a lot of work i also realise im the noob here and i do not know how to code but i play the game and its just a suggestion

RV3 works.
Trams are not really useful.

I hooked up my accelerator to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you. Spoilers and bodykits are how much of the wall you take with you. Rollcages and windownets are how much of a mess you leave on the wall.

Trams

Post by maquinista »

I like trams, it has some advantages of trains and some of road vehicles.
They can be ignored and not used if someone don't like it.
Sorry if my english is too poor, I want learn it, but it isn't too easy.

thanx

articulated trams are usefull as they can hold more passengers

1 point however if ottd used trams make sure towns cannot change tram roads as they just destry the track

good point, but we should consider bug fixing when we got code to bugfix :P
another issue can be seen in that "movie" robotboy posted. One tram drives though another one (near the bridge). Even though it got a nice feature to increase traffic flow, it's not really realistic

...fortunately that's a small bug in my articulated code where the vehicles don't check for a collision on another vehicle that is not travelling in the same target direction... so therefore they just cut through (as they used to beforehand since they were only single vehicles)...

It's all a work in progress.

yeah well i can safely say articulated vehicles is the only thing pulling me back to ttdpatch ATM, is such a revolutionary patch, i want it in ottd cause i play miniIn with the airports, which makes a big difference

And neither is the presence of four different rail-types.

But the latter managed to get into Open somehow.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

I think Trams (and trolleys too) would be a good addition to OpenTTD... And Drive-Thru Bus Stations... all that could help increase advantages of city transport...
design is like a puzzle... I`m just trying to solve it now

yeah it adds a whole new level to RV's. i think that it is needed cause so much has been added to rail and air and RV's and ships have bin left out, but ships dont need it as much

comrade-max, RVs and ships are not left out. THere is a (new)ship set which works and also RV3 works.

i know, im talking about in new ottd features,
apart from clone vehicle(which does not seem to work very well with LV's) i cannot think of a major advantage to playing with RV's in ottd.

as far as a patch might be concerned, i think the bendy bus split up problem encountered by the ttdp devs could be countered by using similar logic to trains and their carrages, in fact the whole tram logic in ottd could be the same as a trains but with the track bit the same as a roads.

No, I'm for trams and articulated vehicles. But gkirilov's argument against is newgrf sets. I'm just saying people may not want to use those, so to them, RV and Ships are still left out.

ahh i see, drive through RVstats would make a big difference to the game, or you could possibly with the new map array in a few years have a dragable truck stop which added bays as you dragged
