TTO on XP & Music and Sound

Post by TedTycoon »

Hi

I got Transport Tycoon working with dos box and made a cfg file so it can be an easy start up. If anyone needs help on getting dos box working with xp and tto then I might be able to help.

Music and Sound, all the tto downloads i got have a music ms-dos app and sound ms-dos app. When i click on them it loads dos then closes again (same with sound). It dosn't say any text. Same using dos box.

Can anyone help me?

I suggest you should download TTD and TTDPatch - use this guide.
And, download the dxmci - see the manual.

Better than TTO, and more comfortable.

I still prefer TT over TTD. I'd like to play TT, too, but it doesn't work well (music? winXP-dos conflicts?)

I'd like someone to write a tutorial on running TT on WinXP and other platforms (win versions)

Oh, sorry, I thought you were other person asking "why do I want to play TT?"

Anyway, TT runs very choppy (a few frames per second),
when I manage to move mouse pointer over "new game" button the map is being generated for ages. And no, this is not my PC, because I can generate 16 times bigger OTTD maps in a few seconds.
Also mouse doesn't go out of the dosbox, I have to use alt+tab to switch to another application, like here, to my webbrowser.

Dosbox title says DOSBox 0.63, Cpu cycles: 3000, Frameskip: 0, Program: TYCOON

No, it's not your PC. It's an emulation. DOSBox emulates *EVERYTHING* in software. The processor, the sound card, the graphics card, the memory, everything.

Software is a couple orders of magnitude slower than hardware, but correctly written software emulations can be compiled to run on any hardware, and work the same way, even if the host hardware uses a middle-endian byte order.

Try reading the documentation. I seem to remember it saying something about capturing the mouse.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Ctrl-F12 will increase the CPU cycles and make dosbox run faster, from memory.

Okay, thank you both... Ctrl912 worked, however, not as much as I expected. I think I should restart system and close almost everything I can close...

That obviously depends on your actual CPU speed, so a general recommendation like that is likely incorrect.

Crtl f8 and f7 do the frameskips 7 goes down 8 goes up... Crtl f11 and 12 do the CPU cycles up or down... and Crtl f10 gets the mouse... and alt+enter makes the game full screen...

Hi All, I'm italian and I wrote your topic... thanks for your suggestion but may I put a great question about it? After the XP start, and after lunch of DosBox, How can I istall TTO from CD to hardisk?
At the ennd of istallation process, if I remember well, the game ask me the soundblaster data... 220... etc in this case is the same thing.
Thanks in advance for all your help
Best regards
