Whenever I get bored, I code somethong, preferable something like nobody have ever coded before...... then again I never get bored. Luckily I code anyway

If you had spent all that time doing something productive to OTTD, we would have a new cool feature by now or if you don't know how to code, you would have learned it

Are you trying to recruit people to the cause?Bjarni wrote:![]()

considering how many who played OTTD and how many who coded for it, I would say that we should try to improve that radio. We got less than 1%, that actually coded something that has been addedBorn Acorn wrote:Are you trying to recruit people to the cause?Bjarni wrote:![]()

can you point me to an express "do-it-yourself" code course? LOLBjarni wrote:considering how many who played OTTD and how many who coded for it, I would say that we should try to improve that radio. Try these, they are a bit out of date, and it is C++ rather than C, but it is still good.

I think the ratio is fine: far more gamers exist than programmers, otherwise people would just make their own games (like i do, haha!). though getting more people on coding would be good.
Still - im a amateur games programmer and I cant make sense of most of the OTTD code, so I dont waste valuable hours of making my own games to only make the smallest difference to OTTD.

NB: the below challenges are still open for submission, so feel free to perform necromancy on them!
Try the PouncingAnt National Monopoly Challenge
Or even better, the PouncingAnt National Monopoly Challenge 2
Or better still, the PouncingAnt National Monopoly Challenge 3
Or, the PouncingAnt National Monopoly Challenge 4
Or try my scenario instead!

I didn't make sense of the OTTD source at first, but after only 2-3 days, where I also did other stuff, I had a working mac port. It's actually not as hard to start as you might think. I think the trick is to figure out what you want to do and then study the code regarding the feature. Don't try to understand more than you need to make your first patchPouncingAnt wrote:Still - im a amateur games programmer and I cant make sense of most of the OTTD code
it would be cool to code for OTTD, ive only just started to learn C and to be honest time contrainsts stop me. How do you guys do it, little bit at a time or a massive slog at the weekend or somit?
O yeah looking for a copy of TextEdit, can't find a working download link anywhere. Anyone got any ideas?

To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Bored
Well, after looking at your screen shots, I had to try something similar myself. using a 512x512 map, completly filled it with track going in a circle. i'm still not sure how long it takes to go from one end of the track to the other, becuse i get bored with watching it after a while, I do know it takes about 10 years to go from the inner ring out 15 rings. i'll go ahead and post it and let somebody else figure out how long it takes.
I"ve finally got all the signals in, so it should be ready for an atempt at getting the maxium number of trains running at once.
