select a group of evil buses and make a raid at enemy city (bus-rush :D) X]

you could make road blocks with busses, trucks etc. (police cars? :]) :D

you know, now we have to design some tanks, warships, battle planes, and panzerwagons and implement "fire" feature, and the game might get a new dimension to its gameplay :]

heh.... openttd-capture-the-flag (bus-only) <lol>

this is neat.

racing championships also sound fun :]

maybe we should suggest the developers to code some plugin support into the game. who knows what might pop-up? people could get encouraged to make modifications :]
I Love this idea, just imagine being able to play this as an RTS where you can upgrade your busses with things like armour, better engines guns ect, then you can go around and have "Bus wars", would be a fun addition specially when you and a computer are fighting for all the bus routes in a town, winner takes all. :-)

"Jungle" is right. Who wants a deathmatch, he needs Duke 3D and games like this :)
I have an idea...: Direct controllable vehicles/trains can be used for manual loading/unloading cargo and driving... (E.g. if you are soo bored and you are waiting for more money, you can switch your Goods-Train to manual mode and go with it throught stations.) But DEATHMATCH? It is sooo crazy, i think.

well OK maybe not the guns and armour junk, but would still be a fun little side addition where every so often you get challanged to a contest, you have to race a bus/truck/train/aircraft from A to B, and the first one who gets there wins a "limited edition" vehicle (available to only the one player in the game who wins the race for it).

Would be fun and would make things a little more intresting.

There are times when JPG is useful, TTD screenshots is not one of them. Please use PNG instead.

This does sound fun (for ten minutes anyway) :) Can someone patch this to 0.4.0.1 and upload an exectuable? I can't get OTTD compiled on MinGW on my machine for some reason.

Next step is to write a 3d engine and allow people to fly their planes around from in the cockpit. Woo...

Ok, this is an old post, but I had a stroke of genius. How about at a certain status level, each company receives a limo (would need to be added graphics) that the player can drive around to various stations. When it arrives at a station it boosts company ratings and/or increases passengers/goods. It would be as though the company owner made visits to his stations.

umm... I think it should depend about the ratings you have in that station. If there's around 1000 passengers waiting in single bus station that has 2 busses stopping once a month, I doubt that passengers are willing to celebrate your leadership in the company. ;)

I compiled it on suse linux

-download the 0.4.0 source tar.gz from sourceforge
-download the diff
extract the targz (creates folder openttd-0.4.0)
now output of ls should look like that:
openttd-0.4.0
openttdirectcontrol.diff
now use
patch -p0 < openttddirectcontrol.diff

note that you need to add 2 lines to lang/english.txt
KP_COMMAND :command
KP_NO_STEER :nosteer

else compilation will abort (!!!!!!!!!)

go into the openttd-0.4.0
directory and type
make

Can you please NOT bump four month old threads with such useless replies. You were warned for this sort of spammish behaviour on your previous account, so please stop.
