Hello. I've got some ideas for two new disasters and one disaster improvement

I'll start with improvement.
1 Coal mine shaft disaster
This one is pretty boring, because the trail always goes to the right.
Go to Disaster7_Init in disaster_cmd.c
Then it will be easy to change direction randomly

Also, it would be more realistic + more disasterish :twisted: when the tiles fall down one level instead of just cleaning.
Take a look at the screenshot to understand what I mean

Now two disasters more, similiar to factory\rafinery destroy.

2 Forest fire - forest caughts fire for a while, then it will take some time to plant it again. Production will be halt as long as trees aren't mature

3 Oil wells fire - it happens pretty often. There will be just a fire effect over one well (for about a month)
Production will be halt for a month

4 Also I think disasters should happen often. I don't like 2-3 disasters per game.

I think there should be at least one disaster in two years, making game more enjoyable, especially on big maps

Thats an excellent Idea. I love it. Original and realistic, but it should not happen in Artic.

That's right, forest fire only in temperate\tropic climate

Also, in temperate climate it should happen in summer months - hot temperature

Some nice ideas. :) Maybe GoneWacko will want to try coding them, they shouldn't be too difficult to do and he's looking for something to do. I'll suggest it. ;)

Why is nobody talking about

Some ideas.

train Disasters Derailments, ignored signal, fire on board

ship Disasters Storms, rocks, ice mounth, fire on board

Airtcraft Crashes in the air, Traffic control mistake

Road Vhicles. Crasched between other Vehicle, Driver lose control


The possibilyty to improve safety spending money for maintence to railwaytracks. in later stadia a system who stop the train when the driver missed a signal.

For ships better navigation modern ships are safer then older one but every ship can be sink. spend money for safety and have enough live boats.

Aircraft spend money to better air traffic control buy n later stadia better radar for your airport.
Ground rader for safety on ground.

For road Vehicles training for drivers.

How about this kind of ideas.

What about earthquake? destroy/randomize land?

Tidal wave? (i think this might be hard to do...)

Giant monster rampages?

When a town is "Appaling" rating, riots???

I was thinking about riots, similiar to road reconstruction

I was also thinking about mountain mud falldown. Basicly, whole mountainside would be destroyed because of falling mud...

junction disturbance causes multiple trains to collide!

twisters leaves a trail of bare land;

floods was already suggested;

ehm... computer mailfunction (for 2020 and up) causes al your trains to stop for a short while, or all road vehicles stop, or all ships, or all the planes that are on a airport don't go taxiing to the runnway/loading dock.

oh for gods sake. This is not a suggestion thread its a thread with some suggestions. Just because orudge said GoneWacko might code forest fire and those ideas, he didn't say he would and it doesn't mean all you have to jump on the bandwagon and have tonnes more disasters too.

it's not about that all of my disastes must be coded, it are suggestions :wink:

So we can talk about suggestions, thats why I posted my thoughts here too! :wink:

I like computer maulfunction
I like the twister, too, but it would be difficult to do with current graphics system (take a look at SimFarm - the twister is small grey glass... kinda...)

I like this muchly. How about some of the surrounding non-plantation trees catch fire as well? Random direction (except where there are no trees) and the land is cleared after the trees on that square are destroyed. (however long that'd take.)

While trees being destroyed would be a purely cosmetic thing, perhaps if the fire entered a town... houses might take longer to burn, but there are the obvious consiquinces. Perhaps the duration of the fire would be determined by the time of the year and the size of the town (and thus the fire brigade size). And roads wouldn't be damaged (perhaps randomly though). Just an added thought or two.

... haha oh yeah. *facepalms* Didn't think of that. Perhaps the extend of damage would be calculated by the parameters above, and then it just appears. Suddenly great swathes of forest are gone and large chunks of towns. :P

I dunno. I've been up for 20 hours *laughs*

I'd definitely love to see a train derailment disaster. It would really add to the realism of the trains side of the game.
Oil well fire would be nice too.
Power outages would be hard to do with the game's timeframe, but it could be neat ...

What do you think about graphics?

Smoke can be added later, in the game code

Also, some flames from forest fire comes from oil rig flames, also oil well and trees are original graphics (as far as we don't have new oil wells and forest)

I think it would be nice if the huge explosion effect appears when oil wells caught fire (like when road vehicle gets smashed by a train)

I think image 2 (full fire) should be chnaged to something more, full firey, with many trees already destroyed and only the fallen trees burning.

Good idea, really good! 4 state graphics would be much better than 4 state. GoneWacko is coding it (as far as I know)

Sorry to nit pick, however, coal mine subsidance is where coal-spoil heaps have a minor landslip. So: land would not be dug out, as originally posted here, rather built up. (Which would look really odd if the coal mine wasnt already on a hill). Any suggestions as to a good way of portraying this, or if it is worth portraying?
