Early vehicles

Post by MeusH »

Hello. I'd like to enjoy my game since 1930, but unfortunatelly most of the vehicles are created in 1934 (first trains). For arctic and tropical climate, first train is being constructed in... 1945? Same about cars, ships and planes. Please, fix that. I know in TT, TTD, TTDPatch it was normal...

TT started in 1930, TTD[Patch] started in 1950. I will move the date from 16 to 32 bits one day, so that we can play from 1830(!) to very far in the future some day.

The first industrialized transport came up in 1830. No I will not implement horses, carriages, sail ships, kanoes, slaves, monkeys and catapults, and I think no one else will as well.

Its a shame we can't start in 1800 with horse and carts etc like mentioned, small towns, small profits and buildings actually evolve from little wooden shacks :)

With 32bit of yearspace, there's no need to start in 1830. Although we might not see a usefull use of playing before 1830, some other people might come up with something. If someone manages to get playable roman vehicles, let him do so. Have years go from -10,000 to +56,000.

so, a lot of new vehicles will have to be designed for the game right? eg. the stephenson rocket etc etc??

Yes. And since it seems most developers are not really the born graphics artists, someone else has to draw it. But, this should not be done now, as we might see a new graphics system (16 or 32 bit) one day.

Not the developers job. Maybe ask in OTTD Graphics forum?

Those trains didn't exist at that time. You need other trains for that, like the ones from the DBSet.

Well, actually, with a 32-bit variable, each number equals a day, there's a possibility for some 11,758,979 years of game time. So it should be quite possible to start in 4,000 BC if you wanted... but playing until 2,000 AD might take you quite some time. This isn't Civilization, you know! ;)

Erm, but... will it be worth it? I understand that there's 1 number = 1 day. That means that with 16-bit number you can play for 179 full years, right? Well, just... isn't that enough? Playing, say, from 1850 to 2025 or 1875 to 2050?

currently it is not enough. We need a longer period. The reason is that if you want to start in 2020, you should be allowed to do that. The same goes for 1830. With the current system, that is not possible.
