Hanau doesn't count to the biggest towns. i included only the bigger ones + almost all "1. und 2. bundesliga" towns

but i will include it in the next version...

btw. 80 is the minimum number of names that must be included (scen editor allows max. 80 towns in random generation) and it seem there is a max number too.
i wanted to create a version with "ALL" (or almost all -> 2071 names) german towns but that where to many... i hate limitations (edit: limit is 256)...

Thats the limit wheb using real names.
When using generated names we have much more possibilities:
In my Dutch Style townnames there are >1700 possibilities at the moment.

Maybe for Germany it's possible to create more then 256 REAL names
when you let the program generate some names with much used name-parts. Maybe I can figure out how to do that (and maybe not ;) )

- Rosenheim
- Passau
- Speyer
- Worms
- Andernach
- Remagen
- Riesa
- Zwickau

I would know more, but currently my mind is blocked :?

How to install the german town names?
I moved the DEUTWNAM.DAT from the archive into the ObjData folder (D:\Games\Locomotion\ObjData) but in game the names of towns are still ridiculous (Hanmund, (Be-)Clopp(-t)enford, and so on..).

you must create a new scenario, click on "Fortgeschritten" (experienced?) and then on the little "town"-tab and then select the wanted city-names

I would suggest a German small town name list, since I for one wouldn't want a town called "Berlin" or "Bremen", and it would be more appropriate for the scale of Locomotion anyway.

So what happened to the Austrian names on your list? :P

Try looking at the Dutch list that's already here. Rather than listing a fixed number of names, it uses a generator similar to the one for the English names, with around 1700 or so possibilities - much more than you can get if you used each of the 256 slots for a whole name. You also wouldn't have the issue of real names of large cities like Berlin or Frankfurt being applied to a small hamlet.

Sure, but then you can simply use the build-in german town names. They are generated from two parts, too, but the names sound very strange/weird.
I prefer real town names, even if there is a tiny village in my game that's named Berlin.

EDIT: Ah, forgot to thank Jak. ;)

How did you create the town list? I wouldn't mind making one of some proper Uk place names :)

Just a slight snag. Not very many mountains in Holland nor much opportunity to run my favourite Bavarian steamers. :P

But yeah, why can't our German friends do something along these lines? Oh well, maybe I'll make a German small town and/or a generator list myself sometime in the future.

OT: I've just renamed my railroad company for my hilly "Alpine" game. Question is, what would be the correct form: "Oberlandsbahn" or "Oberlandbahn"? Or should that possibly be "Hügellandsbahn"?

"Hügellandsbahn" sounds kind of cute
Anyways, the correct form would be "Oberlandbahn".

"Hügellandsbahn" sounds kind of cute Laughing
Anyways, the correct form would be "Oberlandbahn".
Thanks, needed that cleared out. For some reason, in Swedish, a genitive -s is sort of easier to pronounce which made me hesitant about the correct German form.

I see a lot of new German small-town names. Promising, although to use Bayreuth I guess we need an operahouse. :)
