A.I.: Artificial Ignorance? (WARNING: Large image)

Post by Stylpe »

This is 13 1/2 years into the Great Britain 100 year challenge. I knew the AI was ridiculous an hour after installing the game, but when I discovered this, my jaw dropped. I'd been concentrating mostly on Ireland all along, and then I wanted to check on my first coal/iron ore/steel route in England to see if any towns were accepting goods now. This is what I found.

:shock:

There are some places with three levels of railroad, and maybe even four, but I didn't have the nerve to start examining closely. And I'm supposed to be playing for another 85 years? Sheesh. Anyone wanna post a worse case? I dare you.

And people wonder why there are those of us who play WITHOUT the AI... Perfect example here.

I figured I should at least attempt the expert scenarios before coming here to brag ^_^
I have plans for multiplayer maps. Playing alone just doesn't make sense to me. No competition, not even with a time limit.

The first thing to mod in the AI is the max height above ground it can build.

Yeah, that is a bit ridicoulous. I'm not using ai myself, so I haven't really ran into that.
As far as Coventry goes, one of my online friends lives there and he say's it's a really nice place. Perhaps that's why they are obsessed with it :)

No, no, you're giving it too much credit. It should look like this:

AI=spagetti

I don't like the way he went with locomotion, instead of making a better AI, just make more of them, 14 bad AI's are not as good as 1-2 good AI's

Done that scenario and as there are so many AI on it it does just get a mess. The AI even had about 10 bridges accross the irish sea.

bridges are silly.... I had a coal run that was getting too much coal for the trains I had, was too much around to expand the tracks...... So I simply built a copy of the tracks 20m directly above the existing track, i.e. complelty floating with no visible ground supports.

There should not only be a height restriction but the requirement for the bridges to have ground supports every x tiles - perhaps depending on the type?

Because the HSS keeps getting cancelled what with the dodgy seas lately? (I know the HSS isn't a hovercraft)

Yet another reason we need bigger maps!
