Re: The Great UK Meet of 2009 - York, UK - DATE ANNOUNCED
I will most likely be away until the 3rd of August or so, and it may be my last chance to attend a UK meet if I end up moving to the US next year, so if you do insist on moving it, may I suggest forwards and not back?

I'll take the 22nd, if others are up for it...orudge wrote:I will most likely be away until the 3rd of August or so, and it may be my last chance to attend a UK meet if I end up moving to the US next year, so if you do insist on moving it, may I suggest forwards and not back?
But don't move it, if you're gonna be disrupting others.

Re: The Great UK Meet of 2009 - York, UK - DATE ANNOUNCED
keeping the date as is... and this year I want to offer an uber prize for a quiz - 20 questions - 10 on (o)ttdlx(p) and 10 on the NRM.
The prize... I want to offer 153311 as the prize - a 00 guage 153 from Hornby in Regional Railways livery.
I have £20 in the prize fund... I need another £45. Please donate via the button at the top and pm orudge to tell him its for the meet fund.
Much appreciated.

£25 here.
Now that the date is set in stone, I can officially start looking for hotels to make this a weekend Holiday in York?

Yes. I will be staying in the Holiday inn, probably.. it costs about £80 a night but it is a fantastic comfortable venue.Born Acorn wrote:£25 here.

That would be doable, perfectly so, but I want to be able to drink like in London!orudge wrote:I think I will probably just be driving there and back on the day.
Thanks Andel, I'll look into the Holiday inn. If I can get Saturday and Sunday night, it should be awesome.

Does the NRM even have drinkahol facilities, eh? Although we may well migrate to a pub later in the day/evening I guess.Born Acorn wrote:That would be doable, perfectly so, but I want to be able to drink like in London!
I would get the train, but it seems it's going to be a whole lot more expensive than driving.

Cheaper to pay for a tank of petrol than to pay for a tank of fuel and £80 on a hotel!

Re: The Great UK Meet of 2009 - York, UK - DATE ANNOUNCED
Important notice:
This year, 2009, will be a special meet for me. This will be the last meet I organise for a couple of years. Therefore, the prize of a Hornby Class 153 is on offer... with the number of 153311. It will also feature a special certificate and be DCC ready for the winner, if required. The Game is going to be a 20 question quiz. The topics have been decided and will be unveiled on the day.
Sadly, with the meet needing to go further north and then invariably west and south again, I don't think I can commit to organising meets into 2010/11/12 with the same knowledge of areas and enthusiasm that I have done for the past 3 years. With a growing child and a busy family life here, I think its time to pass the reins to others who can dedicate such time and energy to an event that has (hopefully) now got a reputation of fun, frolics and entertainment that features highly on everyones calendars.
Best wishes,
Andel.

Re: The Great UK Meet of 2009 - NRM, York, UK - 8th Aug 09
Thanks for everything you've done the past couple of years with the meet, Andel, it's been very much appreciated. Hopefully, even if you don't have time to organise the meets in future, you can perhaps still attend some of them!

i've loved last year's meet and had a brilliant stay at Chez Dom. Andel, you're in my personal hero book.

Can I enter remotely?
I want 153311 more than I want my family.
