Drawing IS my break. But it think I know what went wrong - my kid. He's usually sitting beside me and "commenting" all the time (BTW, how do you turn off a 4-year-old kid  ).

They don't come with a switch, do they? Try giving stickers for leaving you alone while drawing :P.

I suggest planting trees, works better than bribing the local authority and also doesn't have the risk of a six month penalty :p

Bugfix trialrelease 2
Trialrelease 2 is now available: http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/dutchtra ... release-2/

It's basically the same as trialrelease 1, but I backported some fixes that have been applied to the main branch since it's release.
So also this version only includes the diesel and electric engines, no wagons.

Today and tommorow I hope to get all other vehicles coded to spec, including livery refits. From that point the regular nightlies will actually be playable (bar that you still would need to use wagons from a different set). From there I'll move on to adding the remaining vehicles that are currently drawn but not coded, mostly EMUs and wagons.

Request for steam train research

The steam trains currently are a bit underrepresented in both the set and the infosheet. Therefore I would like to ask for help finding information about the Dutch steam trains in order to get a nice selection of steamers to go into the set as well as an infosheet that is as complete as possible.

So, what can you do if you want to help:
- Look at the infosheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... Wp4NzJ2enc
- Search for missing properties: for each row that has a train name up front, we need all the cells from "introduced" to "tender weight" filled in order to code the vehicle correctly.
- The "terminated" column indicates the year in which the train was last used in commercial service. If you find multiple values for power, speed, TE, then pick the highest one.

- Some trains have had multiple liveries. If that is the case, we need for each livery when it was first seen in commercial service.
- If the information for instance only specifies "livery introduced at the beginning of the 30s", then make a guesstimate and add a question mark to the year you chose. Then we know it's not entirely accurate, but then we can use it until something better pops up.

- We need some more steamers.
- You can figure out what series are interesting to add to the set. Series with a high engine count are always good.
- Small series are particularly nice if there is a large gap in the introduction of new engines.
- And of course find the same properties for this to-be-drawn engine.

If you're interested in helping out, then just copy the table from the infosheet to a spreadsheet. Save it to some format MS Excel can open and I'll then merge the information back into the infosheet. You can also just make a forum post with a list of properties you've found.
If you're also interested in doing research on cargo wagons later on, then send me a PM for editing rights of the infosheet (I need the email address of your Google account).

All small bits help! No need to find everything that is missing in one go!

Maybe this small bit also helps:
I did a small search on the internet, there is a book about Dutch steam trains that is referred to in all Dutch Wikipedia articles I saw on steam trains from the Netherlands, called:
Quote:
Onze Nederlandse stoomlocomotieven in woord en beeld
H. Waldorp
ISBN: 90-6013-909-7

Maybe someone has that book (or looking to broaden his/her book collection on Dutch trains), they have it in the Royal Library in The Hague and the library of the University of Utrecht (inspection only at the Royal Library, can't find it for the University), or for approximately €20,-- for the last edition at Marelibri.
[/book information]

I will take a look at all (or at least a number of) steam trains on Wikipedia somewhere coming week and add interesting trains (+missing properties if I find them) to the infosheet. I already have editing rights, so if you see something pop up coming week, it might be me :p

The item at the University Utrecht is in the depot at the Uithof library, it has to be requested.

Thanks!

I've also been thinking what to do with the purchase menu, and I made a mockup of what I have in mind. The trains behind the text need to have their lightest colours darkened, but without darkening the darkerst colours... But I think you get the idea.

The icons are currently from the 2cc set, but we're not allowed to use these. Unless it can be found out who made those so that we can acquire special permission. Purno, have you per chance drawn those icons?

You have permission for those icons, I can give it since DJ Nekkid has given me one and I've even redesigned one or two of them. :)

I'll search trough my 2ccTS sprites and extract them all for you. Wait a couple of minutes.

Here they are. Of course GTEL and Maglev are not applicable but... futuristic?

Doesn't work here - the GRF suffers a fatal error: Unexpected Sprite (Sprite 31)
Occured here both on OpenTTD CargoDist gb805cb3a and OpenTTD 1.2.0 RC1.

I have the same, and when I use the latest nightly available (r122) it throws Unexpected Sprite (Sprite 122). I am using the latest OpenTTD nightly (Windows 7, 64 bits)

I think I only drew the monorail and metro icons.

Then I'll use the same icons as the 2cc set. That way they will be familiar to a lot of users I think.

As for the grf(s) not working: I'll look into this tonight. It surprizes me a bit that it doesn't work, as nmlc didn't throw errors and I tested regularly ingame. Maybe it's due to a change in nml; I'm using an older version for building myself. Certainly it's an error on my part :) To be continued.

I like what you did there with the consist lengths, but it does make the text hard to read. I've wondered how to address consists lengths in the depot window, but didn't really found a very good option. Technically you could easily view a full 4-length consist in front of the text, and you'd cover roughly 90% of all MUs. A few are longer though, like the Thalys having 10 coaches by default.

I remember I once asked if it were possible to display sprites in the vehicle's description, but I don't remember the exact answer. I do remember it shouldn't all be that hard, but I don't remember if that meant a new OpenTTD feature, or whether it's possible via NewGRF already. Any clue where I could find this info? If we could display sprites in the vehicle's description, that'd really give us some epic possibilities. :P

I just started thinking that a simple silhouette (or however you write that) in a slightly lighter/darker shade of grey could work out great, with proper readability throughout. I'll make a mockup of that tonight.

I'm not too great of a fan of making the sprites in front of the text wider. With a single engine you then get a large gap. When adding less indent to those single engines, the alphabetic sorting will be broken. So I rather avoid that unless there's no other way.

Currently it's not possible via NewGRF to display sprites in the description area. I've seen a mockup of that somewhere though. Don't remember where...

patch seems to be here:
http://fuzzle.org/~petern/ottd/enginepurchaseinfo.diff

check extra_callback_info1 for value 0x22 to draw a special sprite, otherwise it draws the normal purchase list sprite.

Thanks for your search :)

But how useful is a patch that got never included in OpenTTD to us, NewGRF developers who want to rely on this patch?

If we want this implemented, I guess we need to show what we can do with it to the OpenTTD Devs. So that they get excited about it and want to implement this patch.

So... what ideas do you have?

Yep, I was quite surprised by your question. I was all like "Isn't it obvious what I'm aiming for?"

So ehm... can you use this patch right ahead or does it involve some hard work first? :P I'm a total noob at these things.
