As part of the Thameslink Programme in London, Blackfriars station is being extended onto the bridge over the Thames.
I would like to suggest building stations on bridges.

Afaik with the current map array this is completely impossible.

Impossiblr is quite a big word. Difficult and a lot of work would be more appropriate.

There is still space in the map array, though a workaround is needed to make this possible.

The main issue in this endeavour is that it's a subset of advanced bridges or custom bridgeheads or how you want to call that: If there can be stations on bridges, one also should be able to place signals there just normally.

And then there's the graphical issue of how to separate the bridge underlay and the station overlay - which current bridge sprites do not readily allow - which might be solved in a way that bridges might need / get a flag "allow stations on top" or similar.

Yes, this bridges should also allow signals and stations is one feature, if properly tackled, is quite desirable :-) No one found time and patience to address it in a comprehensive way so far, though.

Surely it can be programmed in a similar way locomotion was done?

maybe to save time make it only constructable on like... um..... Cantileiver and Tubular bridges or something???

If i could draw, code or anything it i would..... but i cant... sorry.

If you can't do anything to contribute to it there's nothing you can do to make it happen beyond bug folks, and that usually doesn't help.
But you're still welcome to contribute in ways more fitting your skillsets and hope someone takes up the challenge of your pet feature in the interim.
Well, I suppose a large donation to the ottd fund or dev bounty may get it done, but they're not the sorts of things OTTD has done to date.

Mind you: to date doesn't mean it shouldn't be done today or in the future.

When a bounty gets high enough a dev might become interested in actually investing the time in it.

However, there are other things which need happening, beyond coding and art:
  • Beta testing
  • Bug reporting
  • Dreaming up new ideas, or figuring out how an old idea could be improved. Perhaps you could help out with some ideas on how something should be presented to the user in a practical way.
  • Improving the exposure of openttd to the "market"
  • You could donate server space or help out with administrating the servers. A wiki page outlining the requirements and expectations of the openttd project would be handy for this.
  • Translation (although there is already quite a large team doing this, I can imagine some extra people doing some more translations would be appreciated).
  • Saying "thank you" to the devs for investing all their time.
  • Providing food and living space to the devs.
  • Invent a mind link so the devs don't need to use a keyboard anymore to churn out code :)
  • Help improve / translate the documentation.
  • Poke a local tranport company to invest some money in openttd. Surely sponsering an open source project would look good to prospecting clients.

The technical term is a "Brain Computer Interface" (BCI).

the last thing i heard about that (is a few years back, though) was that the non-invasive method (basically an EEG) researched at the TU Berlin (i think) reaches transfer rates of 100-200 bit per minute, by checking the brain areas invoked for "move your left hand (or foot)" and "move your right hand (or foot)" to steer a cursor, which worked for about 70% of all test persons. their medium-term goal was to develop a cap that you put on your head.

there are also "invasive" methods where they basically implant a chip in your head.

Wow. They must've really been bored to think about that.

would it work on really stupid people though?

If they only use 10% of their brain, what are the chances the other 90% is just mouldy old rubbish?

a) even intelligent people use only like 3% of their brain

b) even stupid people can move the left or right arm

c) the problem is not intelligence, but whether the brain patterns are clearly distinguishable.

"It's on the internet, it must be true!"

the 3% (or any other made up value) actually refers to the idea that the majority of the brain's thought processes happen in the brain's surface, while the interiour has other functions (transmitting data, blood supply, etc.).

what i actually meant: there is no evidence that the amount of active brain regions has any kind of correlation with the intelligence of the person.

Well, still if programmers had the german magical cap, I can't actually imagine myself programing game with mouse, especially if I had 70% chance to move it whether I want.
And about brains, there are only two known situations where you can specify accurate percentage used:
Dead - 0%
100% - head-burning (and smoke from ears, when the person cleans them)

And, also I wanna say that I don't actually like bridge-station Idea. Then we could have whole railway systems on bridge once. Why to build tracks...
