Well, this was easy:

- read "San Diego & Arizona Railway" on that switcher´s hood
- goto http://www.sdrm.org
- ah, there´s the diesel roster ...
- scroll down to "small diesel switchers" ...
- must be that SD&A one ...
- voilà

And now for something different (or similar? 8) ):

country: ??? [1 point]
railway company: ??? [1 point]
line: ??? [1 point]
gauge: ??? [1 point]
type: ??? [2 points]
builder: ??? [1 points]
year: ??? [2 points]
original railway: ??? [2 points]
extra: station: ??? [2 points]

Lots of points (13) to gather.

good guessing
Michael

He, Rollo, I was counting on you. 8)

Country: Madagascar [1 point to Rollo]
Railway: Madarail [1 point]
Line: Fianarantsoa - Manakara [1 point to Rollo]
Gauge: 1.000-m gauge [1 point to Rollo]
Type: U10B’s [2 points]

Year: 2000 [2 points]
Original railway: FCE [2 points]

Good guessing so far, you got 5 of 13 points. However, that´s not enough, sorry.

Cool picture, BTW.

Hi Michael

Thank you for your confidence in me :!:
I decided it was a Tropical location and you hinted "tourists", and a European style locomotive. I searched everywhere. :)
Then I remembered a pic of a similar train and of a light plane giving right of way. But i had to find it again.
Found it eventually and that it was Madagascar.
I did not know the locomotive so i decided to guess and open it up to everyone.

After some revision and Googleing, new guesses...........

Country: Madagascar [1 point to Rollo]
Railway: FCE [1 point]
Line: Fianarantsoa - Manakara [1 point to Rollo]
Gauge: 1.000-m gauge [1 point to Rollo]
Type: U11B [2 points]
Builder: Alstom [1 point]
Year: 1999 [2 points]
Original railway: ??? [2 points]
Extra: station: Manakara [2 points to Rollo]

Hehe. 8)

Yeah, I didn´t think of this when posting. The line in question is famous for being one of only three worldwide crossing a runway.

OK then.

Country: Madagascar [1 point to Rollo]
Railway: FCE [1 point to Rollo]
Line: Fianarantsoa - Manakara [1 point to Rollo]
Gauge: 1.000-m gauge [1 point to Rollo]
Type: U11B [2 points]
Builder: Alsthom [1 point to Rollo]
Year: 1999 [2 points]
Original railway: ??? [2 points]
Extra: station: Manakara [2 points to Rollo]

You now have 7 points out of 13 which means you have already won this round, anyway. Are you going to continue for those other 6 points, i.e. guessing the type of the engine and the original railway where it has been in service before?

Hint: you´d only have to supply two keywords found now to Google ...

Hi Michael

I am enjoying my winning guess. :P
Thank you for a wonderful question about Madagascar, i would love to go there one day.
I am having a rest now but i cannot wait until when you reveal the remaining answers to questions, especially the class of locomotive.

PS Michael if you could post more graphics of this engine as it is very beautiful, or links of course.

Hi Rollo. You have deserved it.
Thank you for a wonderful question about Madagascar, i would love to go there one day.

Here´s the complete solution:

country: Madagascar [1 point]
railway company: Chemins de Fer Malgache (FM) / FCE (s.b.) [1 point]
line: Fianarantsoa Cote Est (FCE), Fianarantsoa - Manakara [1 point]
gauge: 1000mm [1 point]
type: BB9020 [2 points]
builder: Alsthom [1 point]
year: 1982 (1976) [2 points]
original railway: Comboios de Portugal (CP) [2 points]
station: Manakara [2 points]

The once stately owned - Réseau National des Chemins de fer Malgache (RNCFM) - isolated line, linking Fianarantsoa with the port city of Manakara, is run by the Fianarantsoa Cote Est (FCE) since 2003. The northern network consisting of three more lines has been concessioned to MadaRail for 25 years.

The engine shown here is a french-built Alsthom BB 9020, originally used by the Portuguese CP on their narrow-gauge Douro branch line, and sold to the FM in 1993. There are quite a couple of pictures on the railfaneurope server.
PS Michael if you could post more graphics of this engine as it is very beautiful, or links of course.
I´ll supply some more information in my "postings" thread very soon.

[edit: [x] done, incl some more pictures of this engine]

Your turn.

Country: USA
Railroad: Weyerhaeuser Timber Company, Rayonier, California Western Railroad, Pacific Southwest Railway Museum
Line:Longview, Grays Harbor, Fort Bragg, N/A
Gauge:Standard
Wheel Arrangement:2-6-6-2T, rebuilt as 2-6-6-2
Builder: Baldwin

I recognised it as a Baldwin logging Mallet, and initially found a page which does have it listed, but couldn't work out which one it was. The skunk on the tender gave me an idea for another google search, which turned it up. :)

Hi PikkaBird

Well done :!: Very impressive. :P
Thank you for a very detailed report and of course more than enough to be our new winner. :D

Moving onto further discussion. One of the questions the answer was:-
Line: ?
Line: Fort Bragg-Willits

This is a Pacific coast tourist railway, and a beautiful one going on descriptions. Here is a Wikipedia link........
