My suggestion is to make the fountain effect with particles, just like steam puffs and explosions. But particles is a far future, so this suggestion would be possible in the next years :)

mexicoshanty wrote: Yeah possibly but i don't think we should restrict ourselves to animations that are only 3-5 frames long. We are trying to improve openTTD to a point where it will hold up against future expectations.
There is a difference between restricting and being smart/efficient.

The fountain looks great! But I believe Alltakens suggestion would work very good too, but perhaps a few more frames than 5, perhaps 8 or so.. but I think the particles in the water would have to be denser for it to work out. Creating both alternatives perhaps?
Anyways, great work it is! :D

A masterfully disguised bump would be a question asking if the artists have all gone in to hibernation, so have you?

I must say, that if we ever get these gfx into the game, it would be more then a 'face lift'.

I hope this project isn't dying... I've just rediscovered Transport Tycoon and its various incarnation & it would be awesome to see these graphics in the game. I was inspired to have a go :)... Here is my first blender model: The Bulleid Q1 from the list on the wiki. Not the prettiest of trains, and it took a little longer than I was expecting.

Criticisms please!

Wow! That's excellent! The Bulleid Q1 was always a strange looking Loco, but you've done it great justice!

Very very, very very very highly (did I mention very?) unlikely it comes out soon.

Silky: A very nice 3d model, I like! I hope you continue to produce this kind of quality artwork for openttd.

And I hope some one is making things like bridges and the like?

Pilatus: Its hard to keep doing graphics, when It seems nearly inposible to find out, or see any evedence of the programming side of all this, being done. There is no target to aim for, or date, and its really unmotivating.

Ive been away for a while, Aracirion is still away, Crazy ran away...but WILL return!...I asume everyone else is still aroundish?

as for 'bridges and the like'. Ain't seen any yet. I started work on the expesive red one a while ago, so I guess that is WIP.

Silky: That model is quality. Some really fine bits of detail there. I'm just gunna say what is always said about everything it seems...it needs some dirt. People like dirt. Could you render it onto a white plain so the detail of the underneath section can be seen clearly?

Relative to these 'bumps' I'm gunna try working on something today I think.

Ben Robbins:
I can understand that it feel frustrating not to see any change, not only for you the artists but for the rest of us too. We still love openttd (or at lest me) but it would be great news if anybody starts looking into implanting these gfx.

It is great to know you looked into modeling a bridge.

I have not looked at the road map for a long time, I need to find it and read it. I hope it will be a happy read, that some one actually thinks about doing some gfx coding.

I've done the nightclub. I havn't rendered the various light combinations yet, but they are done.

Pilatus: Here is the segments of the bridge that I've done so far..not done or anything. Just attached for the hell of it. They need sticking together...

Ben Robbins:
The bridge looks great, it is dirty and nice. The cinema (it is a cinema?) looks great to.

Reading the roadmap, was not the happiest experience (concerning graphics). Looks like the new graphics will be implanted in about 3-27 year's, well maybe sooner but it is not a thing of the near future.

As I see it the only thing I can do is trying to help 3d artist to get motivated to complete the absolute minimum of graphics, as is needed to play oppenttd. And I need to spend some time in blender.

Field-Mouse wrote:Okey :) I´ll try to begin this as soon as possible. I have another site I need to finish first, but I hope to have done that by the end on this weekend, and then I will give this a try! But stick around mexicoshanty, If something awkward shows up, u will be needed! :D Hehe!
How's this going field-mouse? I'll start work on the system in a week if i haven't heard from you. Also where are we going to host it? Do we have any hosting space that will be able to cater for the large blender files? And if we do what version of php and mysql is it running?

@ Silky, you did good to make such a fugly train look good! Trains would be the hardest to model, i assume... cos i can't do any modelling (or haven't tried for that matter)! But agree with the suggestion about adding dirt.
@ Ben Robbins everything you do looks rad. I like the bridge and the nightclub!

I thought dirt was to be added as layers, by the game? Otherwise your brand new trains come out of the depot looking a bit second-hand.
