Well since Michael has been taking the realistic approach, with the grounds being frozen and thus digging holes x feet deep for certain dimension pine boxes, perhaps the Harland Reefer is actually a morgue on wheels...

@Axlrose & lifeblood

You guys are too funny. 8)
The Harland Reefer appears in 1968 with cargo capacity of 280 passengers.
Well, that´s because in NewShips the reefer uses "food" as its default which isn´t an available cargo in AlpineClimate but only added when also using the NewCargo set.

The deep reason is that - unlike the DBXL - NewShips is much older than the AlpineClimate set and hence wouldn´t be aware of it being active. OTOH, NewCargo redefines the cargo bit masks of train and road vehicles and ships from my diverse sets, e.g. the NewShips set to carry some additional cargo, namely fish, food and beer.
Fountains and statues appear with only dirt for ground coverings, no tile/brick.
I´ll look into it.

Thanks for your report.

@Wile E. Coyote
Most realistic IMO there would be 2 parameters: one to set lowest snow height in winter, and one to set lowest snow height in summer. But it'd be probably huge amount of work (if it's possible?).
It would be possible but need some additional work because I´d have to include more than one snow height table which would be selected according to the used parameters. Don´t know if this would be of any broader interest, though.
Totally realistic would be that lowest snow height varies from year to year (you have some year snow and some year not), but it's probably totally impossible.
That´s not easily possible because snow height tables are static, i.e. they´re represented by an action0. I doubt if it´d be possible to choose them by random.

If you cannot produce them by random, why not have a cycle every 5 years or so?

Same problem. Because they´re static, global and there´s only one ID available, it´d be only possible to load one of them by help of an action06 (according to a parameter) but not to choose between many of them according to a deterministic or random action02.

m3henry I think you should download the DBXL set from Micheal his site, or from the ttdpatch site. The dbset is rather old now and does not suport all the new options like snow in temperate...

@m3henry

Well, to get this done once and for all, could you please attach your newgrf[w].cfg here? And please, specify what you´re meaning when writing "doesn´t work", e.g. show a screenshot and/or provide a more detailed and (hopefully) comprehensible report.

And no, there´s neither an "alpine ver 3.1" nor an "alpine ver 3.2". Please be accurate.

what i mean by doesnt work is that it shows up in the grf menu but when i click on the red flag it wont go green and there isnt a warning message.
and by ver 3.2 is the latest update on alpine and ver 3.1 the one before that.

I know this is a bit off topic but i saw a bottle of spring water and on the back it said.allergy info: contains milk :lol:

Well, of which .grf are you talking now? Apparently, you don´t have AlpineClimate activated in your newgrf.cfg at all.

Please make a screenshot of your problem because I find it extremely difficult to understand what you´re writing about. Sorry.

When using the Alpine set, I have found that stadiums have stopped accepting beer (New Cargo is set to higher priority than Alpine set) and that you can't build farms above the snowline, but the snowline can come down to the farm (note that the date is always January 1st in the scenario editor, so you can't place farms in areas where there is now snow in the summer). Also, what are the plans concerning the brown, Sub-Arctic coasts?

This is a known problem.

Sorry? See attachment.

What "brown" coasts?

Nevermind, I understand both 'problems' now. The coasts were brown because I was using new water graphics, which obviously has its own coast, and I was trying to build farms above the default Sub-Arctic snowline (TTD won't allow it). But since you can now plant forests below the default snowline, something TTD didn't allow either, why can't you build farms above it?

This one's for Michael/anyone who knows:

On the station halls in the NewStations set, how do you do the glass effect (as in not being compleely transparent but still being able to see through it?)

I am working on a little project where this would be useful.

Thanks,

Lewis

My guess is that certain sprites are being drawn transparently with a custom recolor map; I know he has a recolor map in NewStations.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Solved. Now New Water is compatible with new Alpine Climate.

Michael,

Are you doing any further work on the Alpine Climate industries?

I'm interested in moving my UKRS Industries over to the Alpine Climate. May I use your graphics and code to make it fully compatible?

I guess it would be good to have an alpine dummy grf to get all sets synced,
btw. will you stay at climate 1 or will you switch to 0?

> I guess it would be good to have an alpine dummy grf to get all sets synced,

The basic problem of getting industries "compatible" with the alpine climate set (or any other set which includes industries) is the current layout of the newindustries feature.

For a pure vehicle set there are no compatibility issues, though.

> btw. will you stay at climate 1 or will you switch to 0?

That´s the question. ATM, there are two reasons for building on arctic: the availability of original snowy tree graphics and the arctic topography which suits the "alpine" character best, IMO.

OTOH, switching to a temperate basis would simplify some of the industry stuff, albeit on a minor scale.

Frankly, I can´t tell ATM.
