Train limit?

Post by chevyrider »

I now have 295 trains with about 20 wagons each in the game.
This is 295*21 (loc included)=6195 objects.
Now i get the message "Too many objects in the game".
By further clicking i can make more vehickles and sometimes this
message pops up again.
So it's posible to make more trains.
What's the limit?
No need to say i've installed obsolete.rar so i don't have to worry
about the reliability of the trains(thanks).

While playing i accidentely reached the trainlimit again.
I made a scenario with 25 coalmines and several (13) powerstations.
My goal is to transport 20 miljoen tons.
After 40 years i have 80% (16M tons).
All coalmines produce 3069 tons a month and all have 2 fourtrack stations.
Trains exsists of 1 lok nl 1600 + 10 nl self unloading hopperwagons.
No transporting over 75.000 tons a month of coal.
While building train nr.535 i got again the message "Too many objects in the game".
This gives a total of 5878 vehicles.
I don't no what counts with the objects total.
I think also the buildings in the towns and the trees.
Perhaps even the amount of tracks and signals?
who knows?
I know this scenario isn't very realistic, but you know i allways searching the limits.

I just had an idea. Does anyone know if Multiple section units (such as some trams and the passenger trains that i forget the name of) take up more than 1 object?

If not, we could create sets of wagons, so you'd buy them in threes or such.. so then you could have more objects altogether.

I hope someone knows what i'm getting at..

:) if it's any consolation, I think I see where you are going.

the [E/D]mu's are two part units (the opposite half of the unit is the sprite reversed), so do these count as one object, instead of two. If it counts as one, then change it to 4 part unit, and copy the parts around. that is IF it works this way. The same thing can be done by linking 3 er 4 hopper wagons together-- maybe?

The 5,000 bridges could be easy to test, but I'm not volunteering to build 5,000 trains!

BTW.. what the hell kinda systems ya all running to keep them moving at that point. On my 1.2ghz, performance really drops later on in the game.. so I can't imagine this much!

I have a Abit IC7-G motherboard
Pentium 4 3000Mhz
1024 mb double DDR 400 ram
160 Gb maxtor Hd
Ati radeon 9800 Pro with 256 Mb DDR
21 " Philips SCRT monitor.
It's playing speed is almost to the limit.
When doing acc. time i see just a little diference in speed.
The 1 Gb ram i need for RTS games like my favorite Age of Empires,
With all nations and max population enabled on largest maps,it still shakes and slooooows doooowwwnnnnn.

sure the graphics card can cope with the amount of graphical input but its only 4X AGP, if you want a decent one go for 8X AGP. That should up the speed a bit.

Also the hard drive can slow things down.

Having a hard drive 80% full these days is like putting the computer down a gear. My suggestion is remove unnescessary files and defrag the system

this may be old topic, but the max train limit would be nice to know... in a map i made, im waiting for better train *knew i should of made the date a bit later), but in 20years i have 137 trams and only 16 trains(oil only), i just dont want to have heaps of trams and only half the amount of trains...

also a tip for making heaps of coal to go to 1 station, when making the map, put all the coal mines as close as possible to each other, then u go underground, on my coal map that what you have to do in the end, i get over 8,600 tonns of coal a month (yellow bar, just after red) its 6 line station that has 9 coal mines above it (not realistic)

Re:d00mh4mm3r
Make sure you have enough industries to recieve raw materials.
3 coalmines produce max 3* 3069 =9207 ton.
Max delivery of a steelmill is 7905 tons.
This is also the case for factories.

i was re-reading this thread and starting to think...

what are objects?
just vehicles? - in my mind this doesn't make sense...

bridges was mentioned - well how about bridges that are more than one unit high? - are these 1 or more objects? (1 for the bridge top and 1 for each level of support?)

other things that might be objects (exept vehicles) are rails/roads, stations/ports/airports, houses, trees...
- in short - anything you can place on a map might be an object...

As you see in my first two posts the limit is somewhere between 5900 and 6200 objects.
Building further trains was possible, even after the popup warning ( To many objects in game) .

yes
- but the limit can not be both 5900 and 6200 - something is different between the two games...

Were there for example more houses in the cities or more bridges in the (5900-)game that can explain the difference?

what if the object really are higher - but in that is both vehicles and some other things?
- what are those other things?

The highest 6200 was on a real flat sandy map, no trees only very few small towns. only steel economy industries. No ai.
vey much bridges were used.

Hi

I play an unpatched version of the game. This is so that I can 'build on pause' using the bug in the quit window.

Anyhow..this means I can lay huge train routes without time passing.

Each build event causes a £100 price to appear (for example). After building lots of track I reach a point where the £100's stop appearing. I still lay track and spend money but no more £100 appear.

Another example of the game reaching its limit of objects?

Once the game is unpaused the £100's float away and dissappear. If I build something new the £'s occur as normal.

So £'s spent are objects until they float away?
Regards

that has nothink to do with the limits... thats just how much the track cost in 1900, cheap ey, if you say u have an un-patch version, then y are u using a patch to stop time while u build??? (dont ans that, its a retorical question)..
normaly i lay my large track down by 1930 at the top, because city's grow way to fast and it stuff up my plans for world domination..

if u take a closer look, u can start to build while its paused, but it un-pauses as soon as you start to build... take a look, unless theres a tric to it... (I noticed this when i was fixing up a 6 lane line so that trains could go on any line thay wanted.... it was annoying, i lost 12 trains in the next few seconds as it un paused by it self... (it was even more annoying not knowing what passenger trains i lost, i had 200 at the time)

d00mh4mm3r: in the unpatched version you can click "quit game" and ignore the red window that asks if you want to save and conntinnue to build without time passing...

Severous - I think you have a point there...

but... - I tried that - but there are not more than a few hundred of these floating "costs"...

hmmm - might i guess 256? (8 bit)
- I'll count them - next time...
