But from that time forward the nightlies have a function (I hope) since from that point new features and updates are more frequent again.

And Multiplayer :D

You´re true :P. After map rewriting there will be tons of new features - f.e. new music formats support (MP3, OGG).

Are you guys considering to also support iTunes? I mean, so that you don't have to open all the music files and can also use all ur paylists. also, iTunes supports m4a (mpeg 4 with aac codec)

Why not just play itunes/winamp/$media_player_of_choice in the backgroud?

that's what I do now, but this way you can't play fullscreen or you won't be able to skip a song or so.
Besides, this would make the whole mp3/ogg support redundant.

Why can't you play fullscreen? Whether you're running a media player in the background or not should have no effect on that.

MP3 and OGG are very common formats, and OGG just happens to be free as well. Why would anyone implement a bunch of proprietary Apple stuff? Also, the former two are quite easy to implement, loads of existing libraries, etc...

IMHO the game doesn't need any integrated music playback, using a specialised media player in the background means better music support, and lets the user decide exactly what music he hears and how it's played. Much simpler that way.

most decent media-players has system-wide hotkeys - should work in OTTD too ;)

with one word: no
And it's not likely that it ever will be supported. You can always just run it in the background. If you want a special song or some special songs to be used, you can always make a playlist :wink:

I fail to see what the map array have to do with music. 0.3.5 will have the same music system as the current one

Sorry. Of course I meant that now you devs don´t have much time to work on many other things but map and network. Adding new features would mess your clean code badly :).

Go figure. I had to change my password for the windows domain here and because of that the scheduled tasks I have set up for the nightlies refused to run :roll: . Utter windows braindamage :(

Can someone PM or kick me next time the windows nightlies do not appear on time? I'm not always checking this thread and not always behind the PC the nighlies are made on, so i can miss it. Thanks.

:: nightlies are back up.

I seem to have gotten back just in time from the holidays since the nightly is acting up once again. Building it by hand as we speak..should be up by the time I press submit on this message.

Well, anyway, last night I implemented a new music system in OpenTTD which currently supports MIDI (through the existing OpenTTD system), Ogg Vorbis, WAV and raw PCM audio (likely just a development feature, that one). MP3 will be supported sometime soon. It's not finished yet, but when it is, it'll let you pick your own music. I'll likely release a few 'music packs' (eg, jfs's FM-style music) too, which can be used.
