The resize button is only in the SVN yet. This is how it looks like. Notice the small button in the lower right corner.

can´t open your *.scn

Post by araffi »

I´m playing openttd version 0.3.4 and downloaded all of the here posted .scn - Scenarios. Regettably, there`s always the failure "Game Load Failed".

What do I do wrong?

My own created scenarios work fine, but I´m totally unable to open your scenarios as well in the playingmode as in the editing mode.

Looking for help

Good one observer. Not sure if i suggest this thread be stickied. On the one hand a number of these scenarios will be included in future releases, on the other hand I suspect people are going to continue to make them in the future (i will make another couple when they've fixed up the SEd a bit).

Mountain pass - Arctic climate, 1960

Over millions of years, a river has cut a pass through a mountain range. This unexploited area is a great place to start a new transport company. The snowy mountain villages need food and water, and the large towns in the vale demand goods and passenger services. Will you take the challenge?
[edit: whoops, forgot the scenario :D]

Nice map, Korenn. :D

Last night we had a look at all the scenarios that were posted here. To be honest we were a little disappointed. :? Almost all of them were lacking "character". In a perfect scenario, every single tile should be carfully placed. What makes a map interesting are small details and a diversified landscape. But let me explain what I mean by pointing it out on your maps. :)

Ocean View: The bottom half is interesting, but the "backlands" are a bit boring. Maybe a small creak going into the ocean would spice the map up?
Delta: Nice and well thought-through. I like that most trees are growing on the mountains. Definately an easy map due to all the flat land, but we need all kinds of difficulties. :)
Industriy Waters: I've never sawn that many stragt coastal lines, that look like they've been drawn with a ruler. The map could be quite interesting if you make the coasts more interesting and if you make the land just a little but hillier (more realistic).
Xuber City: Same as with Industry Waters. The landscape is too straight.
Weblingnet Valley: The hills need a bit of fine-tuning to be more interesting. And a couple more groups of trees would be ineresting as well.
German Rivers: Nice map! The only thing we didn't like were all those already layed out roads, bridges and tunnels. A few are OK, but there are a few too many.
Greener On The Other Side: Good idea, but much too flat to be challenging. Have a look at "Delta" how to make a flat map interesting.
Oil: A random map with a couple of very congested oil industries? A map focusing on oil is a nice idea, but with all the industries in one place it looks pretty weird. And all other spots are very much landscape generator country.
Midtjylland indgrup: interesting map. Those double road crossings are very ugly though, and a few trees might be nice.
Scandinavia And Baltic 5: Maybe a few too many roads, but otherwise very nice.
Reservior Mayhem: trees? Ever heard of them? I like the terrain, what I don't like is the industry placement
Barcelona: Certainly interesting for people from Barcelona, but to me it's only a bit different from random maps
Alpine: Too many trees. Looks like you've simply used the drag and drop tool to cover the whole map. And why do the trees on snow not have snow on top?

What I've also been wondering was if you've tested the maps in multiplayer. A concept might seem nice at first but not work out in a real game.

Forgive me, but 65,000 tiles, i'll pass :) . Maybe with a better editor we could do this. :) (see feature requests for scenarion editor).

Will look into my maps and see what i can do with them.
Have some nice ideas for bigger maps. :)

I made one side hilly and one side still flat-ish.

Thanks for the feedback on this.... I [creator of german rivers] will remember to use less roads in my next map.

However I want to say, I did it on purpose, so you can start making easy money with road vehicles and since its a more realistic scenario.. there are roads in real life.. :P

Anyway.. I'll try to focus more on the gaming experience next time.

Though I still hope my map will be included in te game

For 0.3.6 we have included lucaspiller's "The Big City" (but we renamed it to "Volcano City", I hope you don't mind), Korenn's "Mountain Pass" and sign_de's "Linkgame Islands 2004" which none of have seen before. I hope you'll enjoy playing those online! :D

More scenarios are of course welcome (for all climates except Toyland). And I'd also appreciate if you could work on the ones already submitted. ("German Rivers" is a good candidate for adding, which some tweaks.)

I would also like to encourage mapmakers to make more maps for the Arctic and Tropical climates! Temperate is a bit boring after a while and players need diversion
