road side bus stops

Post by Korenn »

(this isn't a new idea ;))

the current roadvehicle bays are perfectly acceptable for trucks, but I miss the normal road side bus stops.

I drew a few tiles to explain my idea.

The advantage of this would be that you can build one in the middle of a city, or along a road next to a station, without having to make room for a bay. busses can stop while other road traffic can continue on (although a waiting bus would block the road).

would be exceptionally handy with Celestar's multi-bay patch, because you can chain together stops into one huge bus-hub.

(this is only the idea and the sprites, no actual coding or even thinking about coding done)

Yes, that's a great idea. This is exactly what I'm looking for in recreating a city bus system

Ok, we have the sprites now. *g* What do developers say about such a bus stop?

And how about a large (two or more tiles long) drive-trough bus station for large interurban coaches, that can be placed next to roads?

Good idea Korenn. Are you going to code it? :)

yeah I thought about that, but that doesn't always hold true...
wouldn't it be better to have a choice on left side, right side or both?

Darkvater: I might... once I've completed the other stuff I still have to do ;)

It might be better to leave it as simple thing with stop sighns on both sides of the road, that way no new pathing is needed, and there is no difference depending on which side the traffic is on.

You must be using a very old browser, like Internet Explorer 4.x (or maybe 5.0)? Those old browser can't display PNG images correctly.Try a newer browser, I would recommand Mozilla Firefox 0.9.3 (download!).

You must think of busses moving in different directions.

The original bus bay concept was to minimilise the time of the bus to stop.
Its good for a quick pull in and off it goes, otherwise the bus would need to turn around and go across the other side, then come back again and go into the bay, then turn around at the next junction and carry on again.

I use Opera 7.51, but when I wrote the message it was a PCX not a PNG.
It's OK now.

Then something else:

It would be nice if it was profitable to build bus-lines with lots of stops. Now the best way is a bus driving between two busstops far enough from each other. If you would have a bus stopping every 5 tiles or so it probably wouldn't be vere profitable. So at a stop some passengers would get on and some would get off, or something like that

Thats the passenger destinations patch, go look at that section. It is true that this would be mainly usefull combined with destinations.
