Re: 8 way roads
George, I see what you mean now.
Tmesisbob, those roads are really good, any chance of the white dashed line down the middle? They'd make great replacement roads.

I have finally finished uni, and have implemented the construction of 8 way roads. You can not remove them yet, and the vehicles dont use them yet, and there are probably other issues as well.
See attached piccy!

Adding the white lines may be a bit tricky, as the roads are all made up out of 4 sub tiles. Adding the lines could result in them appearing at some rather strange places. I will have to think about it though.
Of course, if you want to use them for standard 4 way roads then there would not be a problem with the lines.
Progress has come to a bit of a pause at the moment, as I haved managed to break my developement PC .

PC is now fixed, and as a consequence progress with the diagonals has gone well. I think that I am not far off from making an initial release (somehow ). Path finding needs a bit of fixing, and the construction/distruction code and methodoligy needs tiding up a bit.
Attached is a piccy of vehicles actually using the new roads.

Yes but when you loook at the "traditional" roads, they are two-way as well and still only use one tile in width...
BTW will this ever become an "official" feature?

but 1-way railroad takes the same amount of space as road ....stewis wrote:Nah the road is taking up the correct amount of tiles.
the line you drew on the map is a 1 way line if you want trains coming both ways you would have to use 2 tiles across. which is what the 2 way road does.
If you know what i mean
but looks closely if the vertical track would be moved a bit forward/backward (looking from the normal road direction) then it would be EXACLY the same size as it is now and would have taken EXACLY the same size as railroad
what are you looking at? it's a signature!
The diagonal roads can actually be made one way. Its a bit of a fudge, but the small sections of road can be blown up as show in the piccy. Hence you can have a one way road which consumes the same space as a one way track, or have a two way road which consumes the same space as a two way track

Wouldn't it be a big problem at the start and the end of the road then?SHADOW-XIII wrote:it does not look nice .... I suggest moving whole vertical road half square to the left/right (looking at the latest image)
It would not be one whole square!
I still think it looks nice.. It's as large as a two-way railroad (and the normal road are automatic two-way)!
I would just want it to be possible to build a railroad right next to the road (that it will intersect a bit with the road as when you do diagonal railroads beside them)!
(When I have time I will do a pic to show what I mean)
before placing diagonal railroad on the side of a diagonal road resolve the problem of incompatibles rail types, when is resolved this problem yours come easyhAmpzter wrote:Wouldn't it be a big problem at the start and the end of the road then?SHADOW-XIII wrote:it does not look nice .... it will look exacly the same !!!!!!!!! but will use less squares !!!!!!!!!

How should the start and the stop-part be then (rounded today)?SHADOW-XIII wrote:just try what I did !!!

As eobet's second post with picture? (Sliced along square-lines)
I like the round part, looks more like a normal road-ending that way... The railroad will never end at a square like that, a road might do that though...
