City Modifing?

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear Mr. Rudge;

If I understand you correctly, I will be pretty much able to place, say,
commercial buildings in one zone and apartments, in another, and houses
in still another? If that was possible, then I, for one, would come up with
some extemely attractive cities. I really hope we could do that, Sir, that
would do away with the hundreds of Fox theaters and keep the cities properly
populated. Then those Fox theater wouldn't be a nusiance, rather an attraction
like they were intended to be, as well as the statues, parks, etc.
And, as for making the buildings to be as much as you want, up to 255,
would also make it a challenge for everyone to see, how much they can get
into the area they are able to expand. So, Mr. Me-Simon, my loyal friend,
could see if I was still "the best in the business", (a little over rated,) or not. :lol:

Anyway, when do you think that your TTAlter 4.2 might be available?
Soon, very soon I hope! Oh, I don't quite understand what you
meant "the climates they appear in"? My mind is already whirling......

Always,
Jim Powers

Climates

Post by Jim Powers »

Mr. Armstrong;

So, we will be able to place a "Tropic climate" style building in the same
city that is in the "Temperate climate" mode?

Also, I'm with you. WHO NEEDS TOYLAND? That, for sure, can be put
to much better use. In all the years I've been with TTD Deluxe, that's
the one place I will NOT be. Absolute waste! The others are normal and
real life and THAT is what makes TTDLX, not "Toyland". My opinion is
that this is not a child's toy, it's for adults (and some of us adult boys,)
who love trains, etc. I use to have electric trains and slot cars, now, this
and it's achievements give me the same satisfaction as those did, maybe
more, with much less space.

Always,
Jim Powers

I agree with you Mr. Jim Powers (Hey your polite to everyone else!) Toyland was a total waste... Except for giving graphics editors somthing to build a new climate off of.

I had model trains once (I still have an N Gage New York Central F7 and a box car). But they were too expensive for somone my age (Im only 15, Make your own oppinions whether or not I'm immature.). Plus they took up precious computer space (Heh a 3x4 layout in a small bedroom with my computer desk and all my other furniture? Not gonna happen.). Atleast TTD only takes 100mb of space (With everything I have downloaded of course) as aposed to most of my bedroom.

Nice work on those huge cities. :D , You truly are the master of this!

If i understand Orudge's statement then yes this will be possible, Sure would make for some impressive and beautiful cities.

It sure can be used for some thing much better, like Aegir said, its only really helpful for editors that want to use it as a base to create a completely new climate

Yes, that would be quite possible. :)

Well, once the translations come in, it'll probably be released soon after that. And yes, Louie was right about the climates: you'll be able to choose which climates certain buildings are in (for example, if there's a building you don't want, you could shove it in Toyland, or you could bring a fancy building out of the temperate climate into the sub-tropical climate).

Yay i got something right,

Cant wait for this one Orudge, its gunna make a huge difference to the game,

*waves goodbye to fountains, statues and parks as they are banished to toyland*

A question, Say if u send a building from temperate to tropical, would u need to bring one from tropical to temperate, to balance numbers or not?

Thanks again Orudge

I don't think so, no.

One thing I did try was disabling every single building except one or two, which I shoved in the temperate climate. The game kind of crashed when I tried to make a new game (in the temperate climate).

Fun is on the way!

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear Mr. Rudge;

Oh man, you're a genuis! All I can say is, "fun is on the way!"
Thanks, Owen, thank you, Sir.

Always,
Jim Powers

PS. I'm testing my newest scenario, "Norden PLUS". I got another
one of those excellent scenarios from your Repository, Mr. Rudge,
one that Mr. Jeppe Bech made called Norden. I did my usual tweaking
and fiddling with the major cities and added some beautiful seaports,
etc. It's turning out to be a whole lot of fun with the many industries
scattered around and I also made space for large airports in those cities.
A great scenario for train networking!:D

A Better Use for Transmitters and Lighthouses

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family;

We were discussing a few weeks back at ways to use those transmitter
and/or Lighthouse spaces. Well, why not Fences!
The trouble I have is containing the City Limits, or not allowing needless
roads and houses to be where I don't want them. So, I use the "Sold" lots
tiles to contain these. Below you'll see how I keep the City Limits, or aimless
roads and houses from entering my Farm at the edge of town. Now, wouldn't
it look much nicer if theses "Sold" signs were Fences?:wink:

Can someone do something about this? I also have been reading about Oskar's
Canals, and Lock and the useing of the Dock Sold Signs to create them. I
haven't install the canals yet because I use DOS version and I read that DOS
hasn't been proven stable yet. This scenario from which I've shown is the
latest scenario I'm creating "Norden PLUS". Those Canals would work beautifully
in this scenario. Please let me know when it's safe to install these graphics. OK?

Always,
Jim Powers

i understand what u mean Jim, i too have to use bought land to keep towns at bay, because of my town growth settings they grow so damned fast, At must admit that they aren't the most eye pleasing thing every, especially when you have lots of them

If you want to make fences out of lighthouses, you would only have to change the graphics , so this shouldn't be much work (IMHO)

Lighthouses are something you control when you make a scenario
Now in a random game, this is different, you would get fences scattered across the country side
You can always remove them in the scenario editor ... (off-course)
Well, back to work, lot's of it in the near future

Fence Building

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear Mr. Me_Simon;

Thanks for the nice compliment, but, I'm not in the league
with the "Pros". You asked "how would the fence be built?"
Below I made a screenshot of my fence. Those TTD genuises
with all the computer graphics designs, would do a lot better.
But, this is off MS Paint. And, it changed some of the colors
when I went from .bit to .gif and .jpg. I do know that some
pretty fences would definitely be worth working into TTD landscape.

Jim Powers

here is an example of what i meant:
A: 1 x 5 square of sold signs turned into fences, no problems there
B: 2 x 2 square of sold signs turned into fences, will look messy but if they do it like C
C: 2 x 3 sqaure of sold signs turned into fences, if the leg of the fence is located in the middle of the square then you would have this instead of B

Norden PLUS

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family;

I've just tested my latest scenario "Norden PLUS"
This scenario has plenty of action on the water, in
the air, and on land. All vehicles have an important
part to play to make a bundle of money. Below is a
screen shot of my game in progress. I've put the fastest
trains, (Monorail) BELOW ground as in a Subway System.
I'm having a blast with this latest scenario!:D

Norden PLUS Scenario

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family;

Here is my latest scenario "Norden PLUS".
My thanks goes to Mr. Jeppe Bech, the author of
the original scenario and titled Norden (The North).
It was a great place to do a little 'tweaking' and
enlarging of the main cities, Changing the landscape
somewhat, adding beautiful ports, etc. It is one of
my better scenarios. Now I'm back to the game!

Always,
Jim Powers :wink:

What I'm waiting for is not so much the new TTDAlter (I don't use it), as the ability of the Patch to change the parameters of buildings and other objects as it does with the trains. Then it will be possible to have a GRF file that turns the stupid statues and fountains into, say, really big high-rises. Or, use all the buildings from all the climates to add more variety to the towns, that would be nice too.
