Maybe your firewall is blocking OpenTTD and the installer?

You'll need to allow UDP and TCP traffic on port 3978 to allow use of online content.

I'm also seeking grf for early game. I checked CanRoads.
If game start before 1950, there are dirt roads. But remain unpaved after 1950.

Open the NewGRF Settings window and click on Apply. This will cause the NA road surfaces to change. They will also change if a game is saved and then reloaded.

I never used that through (sorry !), because from the news I'm afraid that it'd go against my personal roster of NewGRFs. I have the old version.

Had to do this:

Code: Select all

cd .openttd/content_download/newgrf/
wget http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/games/openttd/bananas/newgrf/Canadian_international_Roads-1.6.3.tar.gz
gunzip Canadian_international_Roads-1.6.3.tar.gz
Why isn't it available from the in-game content download menu?

Same problem. Running Windows 7 32-bit, I have a 64-bit system to test this on when I get back home.

EDIT: Confirmed to occur on my Windows 7 64-bit Gaming Desktop. So that's Linux and Windows 7.

The reason you can't see the Canadian sets is likely because you are using a version of OpenTTD which is too new. For some reason OzTrans decided to put a maximum version limit to his grfs on the online content, so basically only people running OpenTTD 1.2.3 and 1.3.0 or so can find those files in-game. He will have to manually change this limit on his content listings for them to show up for newer versions. I would try to rouse him and see if he'll update it (or better yet, try to convince him to get rid of that silly limitation so this doesn't happen again ;))

Until that happens you can of course still download them manually: http://bananas.openttd.org/en/newgrf/

It also appears that even if you do have them downloaded already, while you can load them in 1.4.1, none of the content will actually show up. :-(

OMG  That will at least explain why I couldn't find the GRF in the content download window.

I just started a new 1700 game with the Canadian Roads enabled, and the dirt roads appeared at once. Looks good :)
