When I landscape the land flat it leaves horrible scaring that doesn't look good. I just wanted to know what you do when this happens. Do you use trees or leave it. If you chose other please post your option.
Look at the pic.

I never level land like that, but build with the landscape instead of against it.

So I'm never really in this position.

I don't flatten the land, and lay tracks while following the land scape. I do make small modifications of 1-2 tiles, as I don't like autoslopes.

Not flattening the land makes for a much nicer challenge, as you have to plan where the tracks go, and take eg raising against a mountain into account especially if your engines are not so poweful, like

I think it looks quite neat with the trees:

I often try to build with the landscape as well, but at a certain point, leveling the grade on a busy section of track can be useful. Or sometimes it's just for that extra bit of efficiency because there's not much left to do. Plus, it can be kind of cool to see cuts in the landscape where you built your tracks many years before ;) I usually just let it grow over naturally afterwards.

Why would you flatten the landscapes? Small hills make very little difference in terms of train speed if you set train acceleration to 'Realistic' as opposed to 'Original' (which is horrible).

I use the "alternate base costs" newgrf which drastically increases the costs of landscaping so I'm forced to think twice before haphazardly flattening ground. My rail networks look a lot more organic when they're forced to follow the lay of the land, so to speak.

Don't be cheap.

Plant some trees.

Obviously, I only landscape once my business is off the ground and I have a lot of $. This is a matter of opinion, so you can do how you want. I like how I do it.

For the record, it's "scarring", I thought you were asking us to cure ghosts!

I typically follow contours naturally.
If a city i want to get to is in a valley then i set up a shuttle service with short and slow trains hauled by slow freight engines with low costs to get people up to the station. The shorter train also allows me to put a small station in the heart of the town to get tons of passengers and mail.
Same with industry. A drop off or pick up station for mainline trains served by a light industrial line.

It's a nice piece of eyecandy and is cheaper than mutilating the land.

I tend to avoid such extreme landscaping. Generally I won't raise or lower more than a few tiles to make some trackwork fit where I want it, and I certainly avoid ever raising or lowering by more than one height level. My personal playing style is to replace any land I lower by raising the same amount nearby, and lower nearby land when I need to build something up.

Also, just to comment, I terraform if I have only one or two tracks side by side. On one of my bigger routes I have left the land as it is because then it would look too terraformed (and ugly with trees).

Sometimes I like to play flat scenarios, build the mountains together with the routes, then claim that they always have been there - miraculously well-suited for scenic railways ;)

While probably meant in a funny way it really isn't and the relevance of your reply escapes me too. So next time please don't.

It wasn't intended to be funny. I cringe whenever someone terraforms like this. I didn't really consider the relevance of my post, so for that, I'm sorry.

Fine... every time you terraform, God kills a baby kitten. Think of the kittens. 8o
