If you mean a .deb file from Synaptic or whatever, that is totally out of the hands of ther devs, it is up to the (k)ubuntu devs for that

However, if you mean a .deb file (i'm assuming you do generally) from openttd.org, which version? there is one for 1.2.0 is there not?

He means there is no .deb for Precise (codename for version 12.04) yet, only Oneiric and Lucid. Just download the generic binaries and put them somewhere in your home dir. Only problem is that menu entries won't be updated and still point to the .deb installed openttd. You can however manually change the location of shortcuts to the downloaded binaries or create a new launcher for it. Don't count on the official repositories they always feature old versions of OTTD.

as ubuntu 12.04 was not out yet when openttd 1.2.0 was released, you will likely have to wait for a 1.2.1 release.

i'm on kubuntu 12.04 and latest stable openttd 1.2.0 works just fine. download .deb for 11 or whatever suit your architecture better. it should work.
also you can compile it yourself.
