while making the top down sprites (which will be rendered to differently illuminated isometric sprites later) the idea of making a free top-down version of p1sim first popped into my mind. the top-down version could be the base of the more sophisticated isometric version and already use the final class structure, gui elements and other stuff.

I had exactly the same thought looking at one of your diagrams myself! I think it would be a very smart idea to split up graphics and gameplay development in that way, and would greatly speed up getting to a stage where you can attract users to give moral/economic support for ongoing development or make graphics for you!
i enlarged the most inner radii of the four and three lane roads. otherwise trucks wouldnt be able to use it. the inner radius of the two lane road is still to tight for trucks. but this is the way it should be. thus trucks get problems when moving through residential areas in P1SIM...

I tried to make it a bit wider but it looks quite ugly then. For the moment I stick to the "narrow gauge look" (but the showed tracks are the standard tracks; there aren't different gauges in P1SIM)

FYI: P1SIM tiles have the dimension 5m x 5m. Road lanes have a width of 5m in game (=1 tile). Trucks have a width of 2.5m. The tracks are a bit out of scale (I would like them to be 1.4m wide)

I think the gauge is pretty much the right size. Also regarding the track middle distance (which in reality is usually 4m), 5m here, looks perfectly fine. Maybe not green between the tracks, though, but that's a simple graphical issue.
nice work smallfly. I am glad that project is moving forward !!!
In my opinion gaps between trains and between cars are too big (roads are to wide).
I would make grid either smaller so that only one car could fit into one grid
or I would make grid just a bit larger so that two trucks could fit. That counts for the train tracks too.

You are right. But I could imagine that the large spacing is helpful in isometric view (the vehicles do not "extremely hide" each other, like they would in your second picture where cars would not be visible when driving next to a truck)
//edit: by the way: your picture shows potential features like overtaking vehicles (note: at the moment overtaking road vehicles are NOT planned)
