Aqueducts are bridges for canals.

You meanwhile may have noticed that we cannot look into your brain. And I'm starting to get the strong feeling that we'll talk past eachother if you don't provide images or savegames of things you have questions about.

Are you thinking of base-game mechanic or a specific grf you have downloaded?

If you *suddenly* needs to make your lines (road, rail, etc.) over a lake, and choosed to dam the lake, but you *later* choosed to make a ship service which need to pass the "dam", aqueducts are for it. You'll need to make locks for climb up, but to pass over the rail / road, you'll need a "canal bridge", or aqueduct.

Thats it, hope it gives you more inspirations !

Place your mouse on it and wait for the description to appear, it will tell you what the button is for. Once you've found out, please let us know too, because I'm very curious what this pipeline button is all about.

Well, that is indeed the aquaduct button. In other words a bridge for ships, as said before.
An aquaduct needs to be built between two opposite sloped tiles. Build it by placing the cursor over one of the slopes; the length of the aquaduct will be shown in white outlined tiles if you're allowed to construct it.
