Barsoom & Other Burroughs Related Maps

Looking though my files I have found the Toyland to Mars program [which was freely downloadable at the time I got it], a game in progress, and plans for a more realistic [i.e. faithful to Burroughs' "Space Opera"] map and game. I will post what I have and, when [if] I have the time, a Barsoom scenario. But I do not know the source or the site. I claim no credit and would welcome someone in the know providing the information in a reply.

WARNING: The game does not seem to be compatible with the present versions of Transport Tycoon [at least not with OTTD] and crashes when opened. Fool with it IF YOU DARE [but please let us know the results].
Here's Barsoom, and welcome to it!

CAUTION! Here is the saved game. It will most likely crash!

OK, here is the scenario I promised. It is a rather hasty job based on the schiaparelli map and a Burroughs sketch. Feel free to modify it as you please. There are towns and industries, but the only GRF loaded is the "Toyland to Mars" modification.

It may be because of that airplane in the top center of your screenshot. It seems to have made it from Earth to Mars, an amazing feat considering that the crew and passengers had to survive on macadamian nuts.

Just a friendly request, can you stop writing all of your posts entirely in color and bold? It is getting kind of annoying.

XeryusTC,

A friendly request deserves a friendly answer. I will, of course carefully consider my use of color, line and such characteristics as bold, italic, etc. I wouldn't want you or anyone else to be offended by my posts or by my artwork.

Speaking of artwork, have you considered that these posts are artistic expression, and that not everyone has the same taste. If one doesn't like something in a museum, one doesn't usually ask that the painting(s) be removed or repainted. If you think that the surroundings detract from the display, a museum would probably be glad to hear about that and might take it into consideration. So if you think that the style of my comments detracts from the artistic merit of the screen shots, that is a point to be seriousely considered.

I will, of course, take your opinion and that of any others so kind as to let me know their thoughts, into serious consideration. In fact, as requested, I reviewed my posts and have to agree with you that they were overly emphatic. They did, as you implied, detract from the other content, and probably annoyed more than a few people. I have edited out most of the bold and colored text. I will keep in mind the conventions as well as the effects of these factors.

Both the Barsoom and Lunar & Mars Colony topics are completely fictional. I have read the Science Fiction genre devoted to Lunar and Martian development and the speculative aspects [other than railroading] are pretty much covered by other people's creative writing. These maps are modified Schiaparelli Mars maps with the beginings of Burroughs Barsoom maps superimposed on them. I believe that the Mars mod was provided by Maxis, but I am not sure of that.

Carterville and Thuviana

The new Barsoomian locus of power.

Under Carterian and Thuvian influence, and using the imported railroad technology, Martian Native States begin to expand. Jahar takes advantage of its location to become a transshipment point with a large terminal.

Mars Transport Authority game in progress [Barsoom 2006] is attached for your enjoyment.

Pellucidar:
Burroughs' land at the center of the Earth. This is a very small map that I was working on a long time ago.
There are no GRFs loaded. Feel free to modify or use it in any way that you like.

Both scenarios will be posted following the introductions.

Here are Burroughs' Amtor map and the scenario I made from it. It is fairly small and is a water world map of Venus.
Please feel free to use or modify the scenario in any way you wish, it is presented here without GRF files. As with my other scenarios it was produced on the user-friendly OTT version 1.0.5.

Great News :!: :!:

Thanks to the Open TTD team

You can have the Mars terrain without the annoying Toyland elements.

It works with other GRFs, including stations, trains, etc. If you want it to be desert,
you will be able to add desert to it but with little change in the color scheme.
