Photo of the Month - January 2016 - Entries

Post by Voyager One »

Let's not waste any time...

Theme:
"DISTANCE"
... set by the last month's winner Ameecher.

As always, rules can be found HERE.

How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
Let's keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 0116POTM_Dave.jpg / 0116POTM_orudge.jpg / 0116POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 0116POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea ;)

At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available for 7 days (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month*. Then we repeat from there. Simple.
(* If the winner doesn't choose a theme within 7 days, the next month's theme will be an "Open" theme).

If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.
Otherwise, it may get confusing as to which one you are entering. If there are two entries submitted and you have not informed me which one you wish to be used, I will use the first one posted.

Cheers people!
Leon

How should we interpret Distance?

Is it a vehicle/road/infrastructure that's off in the distance? or a road/train track that goes on into the distance? or the distance between one train and the next?

Entirely up to you. If you can justify the distance tag I'm not fussed.

Hey, I've never paid much attention to this competition, but I recently took a look at the winners from last year (and voted), and it looks intriguing. I've decided I'll join this year, I got some great shots from my most recent trip in Europe.

Here's my entry for the theme "Distance". I was flying to Europe, my first flight by myself, to meet my parents in Austria who had flown there a few weeks previously. On the second leg (DXB-MUC) I had a whole row to myself and was spread out in comfort while enjoying a nice ginger ale and games on my laptop, and also taking photos of the view. It was a clear day over Iran, a Boeing 777 (?) at a lower altitude than the Emirates A380 overtakes us.

Well, it's January. It's winter in Sweden. Still, we have to carry on. So here's a photo of just that, everyday life in wintertime! Photo is taken at roughly 1pm, so that is how low the sun stands during this part of the year. Very depressing with so little sunshine.

This shot looks towards Hallgrímskirkja, the beautiful concrete cathedral in Reykjavík. In front of it we see Bústaðavegur - a dual carriageway road which curves to the right and crosses Miklabraut. This road forms route 49, running from the centre of the city out to the suburbs where it meets with Route 1, the orbital road around Iceland. The junctions either side of the bridge are for sliproads on and off 49.

I like this photo because it really does show how overdeveloped the road network is in Reykjavik - this shot is in the morning rush hour; you wouldn't know it! All of the main roads into the city are dualled. Aside from Bústaðavegur and Route 49, Reykjavik is also served by Route 40 (which is a short road connecting most of the city) and Route 41 (the main road out of town to Keflavik Airport and the Reykjanes Peninsula).

A gorgeous, beautiful city in a gorgeous, beautiful country.
