Photo Of The Month - Sep/Oct'14 (Entries open till 23/10/14)

Post by Geo Ghost »

The theme for this month is Abandoned.

Set by the winners of last month, te_lanus and Transportman.

Encase you're new, or need a refresh...
Rules can be found Here.
Please read and familiarise yourselves with them if you haven't before.
Previous winners can also be found on that page.

How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
I like to keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 0914POTM_DaveW.jpg / 0914POTM_orudge.jpg / 0914POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 0914POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea ;)

If you upload to the wiki with a different format, I will have to re-upload the image again with the right name. Sorry to be picky, but I want to keep all the entries organised and in the same manner.

At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available till the 7th of each month (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month. Then we repeat from there. Simple. :D

If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.
Otherwise, it may get confusing as to which one you are entering. If there are two entries submitted and you have not informed me which one you wish to be used, I will use the first one posted.

Best of luck everyone!

My entry:

Probably the most northerly London Buses shelter with no Red buses serving it... or anything else for that matter - taken earlier in the year, it is situated in the middle of a country lane just north of Potter's Bar in Hertfordshire. Still in quite good nick despite it's remoteness.

It used to be a bus stop for a hospital called Clare Hall. Since taken over by Cancer Research.

Here's my entry. An old gantry crane, long abandoned and now turned into a reminder of how things were back in the good old days.

Located on the main freight pier, a pair of these were all that remained from old times. Lately they were repaired and restored as they were becoming crumbling hazardous rusting wrecks. Now, back in their glory, they sit abandoned yet again.

One of my favourite themes - I'm looking forward to some stunning entries!

Here's mine...

This picture was taken from the end of the Parkland Walk, which runs along the route of the old Edgware, Highgate and London Railway line. The history of the line is complicated, but basically, the northern section of the line between Highgate station and Mill Hill East is now part of the Northern Line. Only a stub of the line between East Finchley and Finsbury Park remains, short of the first tunnel. It now acts as the Northern's Highgate depot. After the tunnel is the old Highgate high level station (well preserved but inaccessible). The station is remarkable for being built in a deep cutting with tunnels on either side. The southern portals of the tunnels on the Finsbury Park side of the station are depicted here. A signposted diversion via the roads takes the Parkland Walk over to the Alexandra Palace branch of the line, so this area is just a little stub of the walk, but it's a fascinating piece of railway history and "what might have been" had the Green Belt concept not been implemented, and the Northern Heights plan to rapidly urbanise much of South Hertfordshire had taken place.

Of course that urbanisation has happened anyway and this route is lost forever...

The car was wrecked a couple of years ago but if you don't want that then I will just pop outside to get another (truly abandoned) shot!

Well, the tyres are missing, but then, tractors don't necessarily need tyres anyway. Apart from that I don't see any problems either.

I've been very busy the past couple of weeks sorry.
I'll let this run for another week then set up voting to end at the end of the month.

Apologies again. Been a lot easier in the past, but since stepping up to full time and having a lot else to do, my time for sorting these things is pretty slim.

This is taken form the once busy port at Rødby Færge, (Denmark) where many wagons were Sailed to Germany. Today only a few ICE trains gets sailed from Rødby to Germany. They depart from a platfrom far left. (not included in this picture.)

This is the abandoned mail sorting office in Bristol by the station. For some reason there is a light on tonight.

I liked the way the light was coming through the windows.
