Photo Of The Month - June 2014 Entries

Post by Geo Ghost »

The theme for this month is Transit and its Environment.
Set by the winners of last month, Supermop and myself.

Encase you're new, or need a refresh...
Rules can be found Here.
Please read and familiarise yourselves with them if you haven't before.
Previous winners can also be found on that page.

How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
I like to keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 0614POTM_DaveW.jpg / 0614POTM_orudge.jpg / 0614POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 0614POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea ;)

If you upload to the wiki with a different format, I will have to re-upload the image again with the right name. Sorry to be picky, but I want to keep all the entries organised and in the same manner.

At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available till the 7th of each month (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month. Then we repeat from there. Simple. :D

If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.
Otherwise, it may get confusing as to which one you are entering. If there are two entries submitted and you have not informed me which one you wish to be used, I will use the first one posted.

Best of luck everyone!

Quote from what me and Supermop discussed:

"... where there is some sense of effort to integrate transit with something else in a useful way. Less interested in mile long coal trains in the middle of nowhere, or a crowded platform that could be on any metro system anywhere - something that speaks to using transport as a tool to improve an area."

So in my view, something that is suited in an environment or doing a job it is designed for.
A tram serving a busy city area, a coal train unloading at a power station, Logging trucks being loaded in a woodland. Along those lines I believe :)

Hope that helps. Let me know if you're still struggling.

If their not looking :P heh.
Seriously though. I've taken photos of crowds of people many times. Personally, I've never seen anything wrong with it if it's not for a professional profit use.
So long as you're not taking a photo directly of a particular person without their permission anyway.

OK, I'll open the games...

This is the best (and usually the only one apart from some small tractors and many wheelbarrows) mean of transportation on the small sandy island of Susak. There are no real roads there, no cars, an absolute haven of silence broken only by waves, boat engines and the arriving of a daily ferry.

This revolutionary mean of transportation often comes with a masonry parking garage, as in this picture... You don't even need to lock it - where would someone take and hide it...

The main problem is I'm within that crowd... so people are around, and often some looks at me.
--------

So I picked an old photo instead...

With the festive of Ied-al Fitr in mind of Indonesians, combined with the tradition to visit far families and our impressive population density, intercity roads are always a wreck at those times. The rather short gap to celebrate it (just a week for most people) makes everyone appears at the same time on the same site. Enjoy !

The police does some work... but simply there's too many vehicles to be controlled ! Locals are actually bothered with all the jams, also the same with the measures taken to prevent it (ie. turn sites closed, crossings rerouted). After all, there're other (small) ways to get somewhere...

That could easily be a genuine photo. There is a (mostly 4 track) raised route through the centre of Berlin west<->east. The two northern most tracks are of the stadtbahn, the two southern most tracks are of the "normal" railways. This photo seems to be taken in northernly direction (based on the location of Cazz in relation to the track), so you see the normal railways. If I counted correctly there are about half a dozen lines going over that track as well as a number of "normal" IC trains like the one from Amsterdam to Berlin Ostbahnhof.

It's a photo of the ICE train on the 4-track railway as Rubidum described!

I know what you mean - I don't think you were doubting the authenticity of the photo, but rather what it was cropped from. It's not a crop, although it looks like one since it's a little blurry. We were walking down the street and I saw the ICE go over and I whipped out my camera out my bag, but I didn't really have enough time to focus properly.

For the record, it's indeed north-facing, and between Zoologischer Garten and Savignyplatz stations. Most probably taken from Uhlandstraße, although might have also been Fasanenstraße :)

In any case, cropping is allowed, isn't it? Editing is another story.

Don't get me wrong, I know exactly what it's depicting. Just the square-ish nature of the image and the fact that the ICE isn't really the subject of the photo made me think it had been cropped from something else. Not having a go at all :P

Without the Railways and the TT Race, The Isle Of Man wouldn't be the busy little island it can be, In fact, it's down to the good connections with the UK that many International banking offices are based there.
