Photo Of The Month - September 2013 Entries

Post by Geo Ghost »

Welcome to September!

The theme for this month is Industrial
Set by last months winner, Transportman

Encase you're new, or need a refresh...
Rules can be found Here.
Please read and familiarise yourselves with them if you haven't before.
Previous winners can also be found on that page.

How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
I like to keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 0913POTM_DaveW.jpg / 0913POTM_orudge.jpg / 0913POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 0913POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea ;)

If you upload to the wiki with a different format, I will have to re-upload the image again with the right name. Sorry to be picky, but I want to keep all the entries organised and in the same manner.

At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available till the 7th of each month (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month. Then we repeat from there. Simple. :D

If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.
Otherwise, it may get confusing as to which one you are entering. If there are two entries submitted and you have not informed me which one you wish to be used, I will use the first one posted.

Best of luck everyone!

I realise you probably copy and paste this every month, but to be technical, you can rename the file on the wiki, you don't have to reupload it. ;)

I'm not sure if anybody other than me ever really uploads their photos to the wiki anyway. And I've not submitted a photo in a wee while now. Hmm, industrial, I wonder if I have anything...

Just over a week and... no entries? :P

Do people want me to run this through October as well? Give you all a bit more time and hopefully get more entries.

I've got one for this month. This was actually taken while I was visiting England. Our group was in Manchester and we were given the entire morning and afternoon to do whatever we wanted. We went to the art museum and we also went to the Museum of Industry and Science. I thought it was a really good show, especially in the industrial section, where they had numerous steam engines and while outside they had a pipe that periodically vented steam. I thought it looked way to cool against the steel braces and brick wall not to take a photo so I waited until another blast of steam was released and snapped this photo.

I kind of wish the shot was a bit bigger but I can't complain.

Also I just wanted to apologize for my actions in the June entry where I changed my entry twice and then didn't respond. I had actually left for said trip to England a few days before the competition was over and never had a chance to see the responses to my actions. I promise this time that this will be my only entry :D

Sadly, I can't find anything "industrial" among my pictures. I need to get some time to go shooting some...

@Opan - Forgive me but what does your picture have to do with transport in general?

OK, I had a decent idea yet to be used for a photo, but the weather is too unpleasant to make it come true. Maybe another time (again...).
I'll post this one instead, hope it fits either.

It's the interior of Solaris Bus&Coach factory! It was taken in February 2009, most of the buses seen in the picture are ones being assembled for Athens. For what I know, Solaris no longer allows taking pictures inside their factories (they still allow a bit of sightseeing for organised groups though), so it's a (slightly) unique shot - I was there again in 2010 (we came there on a Scania CN113, which looked a bit like a diversion ;)) and we were kindly asked to pack out cameras.

My entry... A massive bulk freight unloader. Used mostly for coal and iron ore, it is mounted on rail tracks giving it a range of work all over the 500-metres long pier. Underneath it, you can see a long conveyor belt with some loading bays for trucks and trains (lower left corner). Until a decade ago, this belt also supplied a coking plant on the other side of this bay - by going trough a underwater tunnel (you can see the concrete tunnel going into the sea - in the middle-right of the green unloader).

The cranes used to unload the colliers flatirons of their coal for Battersea Power Station, still in situ and in a state of serious disrepair, form the backdrop for people enjoying the power station's park during the Open House weekend on the 22nd September 2013.
