Photo Of The Month - August 2012 Entries
Hi all.
So here we are, August. I have a quick message for everyone first
I'd like to thank everyone who has taken part in POTM over the past 6 months. It has been great to see so many people getting on board with the competition again and I'm very glad that it's revival has been so strong. To everyone whether it be entrants, voters, supporters, staff etc, thank you
The theme for this month is Water as set by last months winner, Klaasgras.
Rather fitting considering Klaasgras' winning entry for last month
You all know how this works now. But encase you're new...
Rules can be found Here.
Please read and familiarise yourselves with them if you haven't before.
Previous winners can also be found on that page.
How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
Please avoid uploading direct to the wiki. I like to keep entries in a certain format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me so I am aware of it. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 0812POTM_DaveW.jpg
If you upload to the wiki with a different format, I will have to re-upload the image again with the right name. Sorry to be picky, but I want to keep all the entries organised and in the same manner.
At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available till the 7th of each month (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month. Then we repeat from there. Simple.
All the best as always.
-Richard

Don't do boats very much... This probably hasn't got a hope:
From the beach along the coast of North West Wales, this pretty little shot, taken on the evening of May 30th 2010, depicts the Island of Anglesey across the Menai Strait, with Bangor's pier and several sea going vessels lying on the sand bank at low tide.

Re: Photo Of The Month - August 2012 Entries
The topic is "Water", not "Lack of Water".
Re: Photo Of The Month - August 2012 Entries
Boats sail on water, there are boats in this photo. Ergo.
EDIT: Besides, this is a strait - at low tide water only sticks around in the middle.

Everything's so big in America.
Re: Photo Of The Month - August 2012 Entries
Hey, go big or go home, right!?
Anyway, here's my entry, a lovely shot of the ferry Tacoma passing in front of the city of Seattle, all dressed up for Seafair. Or maybe the Olympics Who knows.

I can't quite decide between these two... the first one is Donner Lake, taken in July 2006, the second one is Lake Tahoe at sunset, taken January 2009. I'll decide on one and upload it to the wiki, Geo.

I'd go for Lake Tahoe, Owen. That's an incredible shot. A321's is great too... mainly because I love that stretch of coastline.
Re: Photo Of The Month - August 2012 Entries
No transport in the Lake Tahoe one.
The other one I could just about see cos its got boats in.

Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that
Re: Photo Of The Month - August 2012 Entries
Some of these photos are very loosely transport...

I will use this one instead because its got a van in!?
Come on guys... Richard, let's have a bit of a law laid down here haha... This is the POTM for Transport!

I was about to bring that up oddly enough.Dave W wrote:Come on guys... Richard, let's have a bit of a law laid down here haha... This is the POTM for Transport!
Like Dave said, photos must have an obvious relation to transport. So posting photos of a lake or the water and saying "There's a boat in the background where that little spot is" simply isn't going to really fit that rule I'm afraid. Something like a canal I will accept in the same way I'd accept a shot of a railway.
Owen and 47407, could you reconsider your entries? Whilst they are very nice indeed and relate to the theme of Water, I find it difficult to see them as transport photos.
Also to Badger and doktorhonig, thanks for naming the files like you have done. That saves me a bit of time in organising the photos here Tis greatly appreciated!
Edit:
To a staff member, could we have this topic pinned and the July Voting topic unpinned please?

Re: Photo Of The Month - August 2012 Entries
Well, the Donner Lake one does at least have boats in, and also a motorway in the background. Also a marina to the bottom left if you look closely.Geo Ghost wrote:Owen and 47407, could you reconsider your entries? Re: Photo Of The Month - August 2012 Entries
If a donkey can be classed as a mode of transport then i have a great shot of Dymchurch beach. But instead I'll post this a nice shot like Badger of Lake Windermere and the Ferry docking at Lakeside
