I'm still tempted with at least flying in - worth the experience!
Those are not Advances. They clearly say Off Peak on them. Buying tickets in advance does not make it an Advance fare unless it says Advance on it (or some kind of promotional name).

I'm not trying to get you to go by train (absolutely no conflict of interest there...!), I'm just trying to get you to make an informed decision!

Yes, I see it costs all of about £1.80 return to get from Central Station to the transport museum on the train - seem pretty good to me!

I should be able to make an appearance on the day, though I think driving will be required. The following day I'm doing a sponsored climb of Snowdon!

Regretfully, this is smack in the middle of my early shifts so I will be unable to attend.
Apologies chaps. Perhaps next year :)

Unfortunately I can no longer attend due to various factors - if it was 2 weeks earlier I could more than happily turn up.
Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that

Regretfully, I'll have to skip. Some other plans for June were around all the time and clarified to take place at that very weekend. Next year, perhaps (the same thing I said last year, eh).

I might consider attending after all. Possible opening in my very busy and important schedule. Struggling to find decent rates flying into Glasgow. Might I be better off going by train from somewhere further south? Getting myself to London, for example, is rather cheap. Getting from there to Glasgow would be the trickier part. Flying into Glasgow would pretty much force me to fly with BA and that's a bit pricier than what I was hoping for.

Check flying to Manchester.
You can get direct trains Manchester Airport to Glasgow Central for £29 if you book in advance.

Prestwick or Edinburgh would be an option. Prestwick is easy to get into Glasgow and Edinburgh has plenty of buses to Glasgow from the terminal.

Out of curiousity, what are the options for travel around Glasgow on the day? Is there an SPT-equivalent of a One-Day Travelcard? (or even better, a Weekend one as I'm staying over and need to get to Queen Street before noon on the Sunday), and how easy is this to organise? In the old thread there was mention of some new-fangled smartcard type thing that requires registration...

There's a Virgin train that goes from London Euston into Glasgow Central.

I'll certainly be going from London up on the train. We could go together like a couple ^__^

It seems that fares are VERY cheap. I think the Saturday fares must have only been put in today, because there are no Advances yet for the next-day Sunday.

With fares this cheap (with a railcard), there's no excuse not to come!

It costs me just about that much to go from Aberdeen to Glasgow! (Without a railcard, admittedly.)

I concur with Ploes' suggestion of the Camperdown Place, although both can be quite busy on weekends (Camperdown Place because it's relatively small, Counting House because it's prominent). If you need any other suggestions, the two of us are probably your best ports of call, living around the city.

Indeed, I may call upon you for suggestions. There's nothing to say it has to be a Wetherspoons, but every meet since Edinburgh has featured one so it's become a bit of a tradition. Plus it's usually cheap and the food is fairly decent.
