Railway Committee

The Railway Committee was established in 1890 to facilitate the transportation of passengers and all types of freight.

The first railway built was the Eastern Railway between the capital, Morpeth, and Basingstoke.

These look Great, Except get rid of the 90 Degree Turns at the Crossovers at both Terminuses.

I dont see what is wrong with those 90 degree turns, there is no situation when any train would have to use them under the current pathfinder.

These look Great, Except get rid of the 90 Degree Turns at the Crossovers at both Terminuses.

I think they are fine but will change it at Basingstoke. It is quite hard to change it at Morpeth due to the lack of space.

Now, after a few years, the Committee was struggling to break even. Thus, it was decided to build a railway between Abbotsbury and Hemel Hempstead by the end of 1894. A Steel mill is present at Hemel and this new line would allow (hopefully profitable) scrap metal trains starting from the scrap yard at Little Musgrave to the mill. It was also decided to run passenger trains on this line, so two new platforms at Morpeth were built.

Alcohol trains from Worcester to the capital Morpeth, were run for approximately 5 years. However, the service was discontinued as it was not profitable.

Due to the production of steel at Hemel, it was decided to build a branch off the Eastern Railway to Wrabness to serve the Metal Foundry there.

I think the harbor is just two Fishing Harbors (industries from ECS) with a lucky placement. But they are really great shots still.

Basingstoke works was built in 1890 to service the locomotives and carriages of the Eastern Railway.
On the far right you can see that the 90 degree crossover has been replaced, which will please some
The train present has just terminated at Basingstoke, operating a local from Wrabness, and is heading to the works for servicing.

The Hemel line was built initially as a single line railway, but due to the success of the scrap metal and passenger trains, the line was doubled in 1898. Here is the intemediate station, Maidenhead, which is where the line splits in two, with one branch heading to Hemel Hempstead, and the other to Oswaldtwistle. The train present is heading to Hemel Hempstead.

The scrap metal trains were shown to be profitable, and the Committee had enough funds to invest in an extension of the Eastern Railway from Basingstoke to Pontefract.
Here is the only intemediate station in the extension, St Albans:

What are you using to make your network maps?

What are you using to make your network maps?

I'm using Visio 2007. It has a whole section dedicated to 'metro' maps, which includes lines and interchange stations. It does make tube like maps easier to produce, when compared to Photoshop or Fireworks. However, it is pretty hard to replicate 45 degree curves, as it takes an age, in Visio.

nice Screenshot. To be honest I never got how people build such networks, with stations on the tracks.
