Okay, 2 months w/o any post - now that's bad. I blame the workload of.. well, actual work. The SPL/GPL courses aren't helping either.

 A321Pilot: Thanks.. May I ask which track designs? I mean.. when people are using your designs, you are doing something right, neh?

Also, screens (still messing around with that UKRS game - for about a year and a half by now.. a new record, I usually finish in about 4-6 months)

#1 - With close to 100 aircraft currently in use, a high-profile accident is a matter of "when". Here's a short list of various accidents (not just aviation ones) and their respective death tolls:
  • 1860, March 3 - 29 dead, train wreck at Barnoldswick station
  • 1897, October 27 - 30 dead, crossing accident at Staveley. More accidents took place there, with a total death toll of 69, before the crossing was removed sometime in the 1920s
  • 1941, September 15 - 118 dead, train crash at Radcliffe
  • 1964, October 26 - 6 dead, Bristol Britannia in-flight breakup during a training flight near Yaxley
  • 1975, January 10 - 66 dead, BAC 1-11 crash at Durham
  • 1979, January 13 - 2 dead, Boeing 737-200 crash at Durham
  • 1981, January 18 - 7 dead, Bristol Freighter crash at Tiverton
  • 1982, March 24 - 46 dead, Boeing 707 crash at Yaxley
  • 1988, June 14 - 56 dead, Boeing 767 crash at Holmfirth - see screenshot
  • 1995, January 13 - 5 dead, crossing accident at Vowchurch
  • 1995, August 30 - 13 dead, Boeing 747-200 crash at Shipley-Corby airport
  • 1996, March 20 - 152 dead, Airbus A320 crash at Bacup
  • 1997, July 18 - 198 dead, Boeing 747-400 crash at Saxondale
#2 - a 10-car formation of class 421s on the "Shipley south circle line" service from Shipley Trafalgar to Rochdale

#3 - On the other side of the capital, a 8-car Class 319 on the only significant stretch of dual electrification, running the "Shipley north circle" - from Rochdale to Corby on 3rd rail, then switch to OH all the way to Shipley Trafalgar, then again on the 3rd rail to Urmston

#1 - Radcliffe, around 1990. The old Class 81s on the various Shipley-Warley services have been replaced by brand new Class 90s..

#2 - Stapleford, same era - very little has changed here, except for the rolling stock

#3 - Last glimpse of Sale station without a web of overhead catenary. The entire line west of Yaxley (to Sunderland and Longbenton) has been electrified in 1995, and the 37/47s repplaced with 321/90s respectively.

#1 - Whitectoft station post-1995 rebuild. The basic layout remained unchanged, but the mainline platforms have been sunk one level for better interchange with the Petersfield line

#2 - A Class 92 with a Freightliner train. I love the power of these things, shame that I can't find more work for them without going all-out on the OHE

#3 - Another 1995 addition - a dedicated high-speed line from Eccles via Shipley (both airports have a station) to Rayleigh, with 8 Eurostars running the service.

Thanks, guys..

I think I'll be done with the UK game soon (my target date is 2015-2020, I'm in 2005), so far I have no plans regarding any new game.

Also, screens:

#1 - A passenger train from Beaminster to Stixwould via Sandford, hauled by a rather worn class 37. This line was one of several that were singled during the 1960s.

#2 - In contrast, the line from Saxondale to Skelmersdale used to have four tracks until 1998 - As a part of general upgrade, the fast lines have been removed, which meant that some restrictive curves could be eased. Another part of the upgrade was the replacement of the old Metro-Cammel DMUs with modern Turbostars.

#3 - Another upgrade of rolling stock - Poole-Shipley expresses now use 7-car Voyagers.

#1 - Situation at St. Clement with a good representation of the usual traffic - a pair of Class 47-hauled expresses on the Broadstairs-Vowchurch service (the line is electrified only as far as Darlington), a class 423 on a Broadstairs-Quedgeley all-stopper, one 442 on Broadstairs-Shipley express (via Burgess Hill and Cresswell). two brand new Electrostars on Broadstairs-Burgess Hill service and various freight trains hauled by Class 73s

#2 - Various Mark 1 derived EMUs have been replaced by Electrostars, like this one west of Bury

#3 - On the various non-electrified lines, the once dominant class 47s have been (mostly) replaced by a combination of Turbostars, Voyagers and Class 67s. Only on fast freight do they still reign supreme.

Like in reality: It is called „upgrade“ and in fact, all, what seems to be unnecessary, gets removed...

Very nice pictures, anyway!

#1 - Freight traffic between Blyth and Broadstairs. The aging Class 73s are either refurbished or replaced by Class 92.

#2 - Watford, eastern approach. And Pendolinos. Lots of Pendolinos (and one Voyager).

#3 - Despite the fact that the line from Atherton to Darlington was electrified in late 1980s, the stopping services still used Sprinters until 2005.

Also some statistics, 2006 edition.

While the number of the various MUs might seem obscene, they mostly run in pairs or even trios - in fact for some time my go-to replacement for a class 47 had been a 12-car (3×4-car) Turbostar.

A map will be posted later.

The map I promised, 2008 edition. And since doing all these edits takes a lot of time, I'm done with doing several separate maps, instead I combined the screens in one composite map. I *might* do a detail of the southeastern corner of the map though. Detailed map added.

Electrified lines have usually the date of electrification written in appropriate color nearby (give or take a year - I have saves as much as 4 years apart, so I wrote those mostly from memory), so far 25kV only. Any 3rd rail dates will be done in the detailed map.

Edit: added the promised detailed map

Edit 2: OK, a minor correction.. the Shipley-Corby-Burnham-Shipley line has been electrified in 1965 and the catenary was extended to Wrentnall in 1981 (map shows both as 1978)

I'm rapidly approaching the date I set as my goal for this game (2015-2020, current date 2012).. Which means
a) an endgame picture dump
b) selection of a new game

First, the screens:

#1 - A Class 92 with a full container train, headed for Silsden

#2 - Originally the largest town east of Shipley, Slough now boasts a station that is massively overbuilt relative to the size of the town it serves

#3 - Andover junction (I just love this place.. so much to see here)..

Continuing with larger area screenshots:

#1 - Huxley, a large city in the southeast, and also a site of the last 3rd rail electrification project, completed in 2008. To cope with increased demand, the Huxley-Formby-Newcastle line has been electrified and its Sprinters have been replaced by Electrostars. Additionally, the electrification meant the Shipley-Rochester expresses could be rerouted via this route, freeing up some capacity at the busy Bradford station.

#2 - Rayleigh, the second largest city in the Southeast after the capital. Rayleigh Valley station is the first station (~1835) built in the city, originally as a terminus of the Rayleigh-Huxley-Rochester line, now with a pair of through platforms which are used by Rochester-Rayleigh-Broadstairs expresses (first steam hauled, then Class 73s, now Turbostars - if you see a Turbostar on a 3rd rail, it's this service) and Rayleigh-Broadstairs shuttle (a Cl.442 can be seen in the siding). The stopping services use the bay platforms, and run only as far as Huxley since the 1930s.
The other station was built during the early 1840s for services to Shipley and Broadstairs, and originally had just 4 platforms. The original track via Rayleigh West is now used only by all-stop services to Broadstairs.

#3 - Eccles. With 9 platforms and 96 trains using them, it is the busiest stations on the map. The only stations that come close are Shipley St.Marks (84 trains on 10 platforms, 24/4 of these are Underground trains/platforms), Ashford (86/10) and Durham Newgate (62/6)
