I still remember our multiplayer server of that map, that was fun.
Me too, it was a great game on that map, I've still got a (much changed) save of it that I play on

Sort of... If you use the animated water color, there's no need to draw the transitions. Just make sure you done it properly so a good animation will appear.

Ok that s interesting, so wich blue should i use ? and should i make just a united blue for the area where there is supposely animated wawes or should i still draw something manually ?

edit : and i believed i used the animated water blue yes, cause i picked up the colors from a screenie (png) where appears the OGFX rocks.

Yes, use the various animated blue water-cycle colors, as seen in this palette image: Image

Each color cycles to the next color, so you can make wave effects by first painting a line in one blue, then an adjacent line in the next blue in the cycle, and so on.

Once you've painted your sprites, you can use TTDViewer to check them out and see if they will animate as you desire: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=46927

thanks Supercheese,
before going forward i d like to clear a doubt : do i have to draw only one sprite with all the "water cycle blue" next to each other and then some magic make the transitions sprites ? or do i have to draw the transition sprites ?

Edit 1 : added screen

Yes, you only need to draw the one sprite; the game will automatically animate the water colors.

I tried drawing a cliff, here is a first result.

I wanted to make it fit inside two tiles, but i may have been too far and so it s more a 4x4 tile now...

comments welcome

edit : thanks andrew, havent seen your answer when posting...

Yep, tested in TTDViewer and it looks good. Not sure about the dimensions relative to other in-game objects -- is it a 2x zoom sprite, per chance?

indeed i think too that this one is a x2 zoom sprite, but i haven t really did that in purpose....(i just started drawing on a screenie and haven t realized the scale)

and i downloaded ttdviewer, but then i got lost on how to run the thing... so thanks for sharing that it looks fine !

One thing to note, that while it does look good, the "waves" seem to be going out away from the rocks, rather than towards them. I can't create a .gif to demonstrate on short notice, but perhaps you'll want to reverse the blues so they cycle in the opposite direction.

Ah, another thing to notice is that there are actually two different, independent water-cycle color sets. As you can see in the attached TTDViewer screenshot, there are "glittery" and "dark" water cycles that act independently of each other. Thus, your sprite ends up having two sets of waves in it.

(In the vertical sample of colors you've got on the right, the bottom five colors and top five colors cycle independently of each other.)

In the event you may be having trouble using TTDViewer, it may be because you have not palettized your images. OTTD needs 8bpp, indexed images with wither the Dos or Windows palette applied. In GIMP at least, you can index your images by selecting Image -> Mode -> Indexed, and then choosing an appropriate palette (see this page for GIMP OTTD palettes). It is best to de-select the "Remove unused colors" option in GIMP.

Rio Febrero is an amazing area. I can't say I like the point work either side of the main station, it's ugly and there are some nasty tight turns too, BUT.......,
the whole area is packed with detail and the river/bay delta is superb!
