SwissFan91's Swiss & Italian Screenshots [REVAMPED]

Post by SwissFan91 »

Well this is my second screenshot thread, my first one wasn't a great success.

Anyway, before i begin posting, i would like to say i few things.

The original scenario is "Italy Scenario v.035" by Mikima, so really they should get all the credit for the Italian towns and the heightmap stuff. I just noticed that there was no swiss towns whatsoever so i added all of them, with the roads and so forth.

I know there are loads of things wrong, particularly with some .grf's not working properly. Please don't point it out unless it is absolutely necessary, as no doubt if you have spotted it, i have spent hours trying to get round the problem ! I do know about:
  • -> The roads having the alpine grass behind them.
-> Perhaps not having the correct locomotive/carriage for the real-world route.
-> Some of the highest peaks having trees on them  trying to introduce a tree-line was too difficult.
-> The majority of the track was built when i was still a 'n00b' to the game, so excuse some of the layouts, particularly at terminus stations. I have already removed a lot of the signals already, so bear with me if there are still far more than necessary.
-> The valleys are too narrow in a lot of places so yes i do know that a valley will have more than just a double track in !
-> The towns are a mixture of the French and German language-take on them.
-> I have used North American roads and buildings.... purely because i thought they look the best.

So apart from all of that... ENJOY :)

The Berner Oberland Bahn (BOB) train runs past the resort of Wengen, dwarfed by the impressive Monch, Jungfrau and Eiger peaks. Despite being the height of summer, trains run regularly from the valley below, Interlake Ost.

Yep, I like this A LOT!

Although, technically, the BOB only runs Interlaken - Lauterbrunnen/Grindlewald. The WAB runs from Lauterbrunnen - Wengen - Kleine Schiedegg and Grindlewald - Kliene Schiedegg!

But we'll let you off since I bloody love Switzerland and would really like to get a good game going on an alpine based map. :)

Yes yes i know, but the area really was too small to put Kleine Scheidegg in and then the line up to Wengen in that way  But it is good to meet someone as passionate about Switzerland as i am !

Anyway, with the summer drawing to a close, the high alpine resort of Saas-Fee is preparing for the winter season ahead, with only the bravest climbers attempting to challenge the mighty 4000m+ peaks.

Here's the GRF list. There are probably a few pointless ones in there but if it works i'm not complaining :)

Right here we go... :P

Taking the scenic glacier express, we begin our journey in the famous resort of St. Moritz, with the station also housing the Engadine Line trains too, although none are present. After leaving here, the short journey down the Upper Engadine valley brings us adjaecent to the tracks of the Bernina line, whose tracks run over the Bernina Pass into Italy.

Having left the Engadine valley through the summit Albula tunnel, our train travels through the village of Bergun, and begins its descent towards the valley below.

Our Glacier Express train has just left the valley town of Thusis, having shared a station with the busy SBB-CFF-FFS mainline that connects Zurich to Milan. Our train now begins its long climb up the Rhine Valley towards Disentis/Munster.

Our train has now reached the mid-way point of the Glacier Express ride, Disentis/Munster. Our way now continues over the high Oberalp pass towards the town of Andermatt.

Come back soon for the rest of the journey, towards the historic town of Zermatt ! :)

Back to the Glacier Express journey..

1. Our train has passed over the high Oberalp Pass, and has descended into the alpine resort of Andermatt. The distant tracks of the Gotthard Line can be seen, as they enter the 15km Gotthard Tunnel.

2. Our train emerges from the Furka tunnel, which also carries cars as part of its car transporter service as the high Furka Pass is shut between October and June.

3. Our train makes its way through the Goms region towards Brig, and is seen here passing through Fiesch. The ski resort of Riederalp can be seen perched on the valley side, and is only accessible by means of cable car.

1. Our train departs the busy Brig-Glis station, with tracks from the mainline SBB-CFF-FFS, and the BLS trains from Bern (Grey). The road splits here, with one ascending the Simplon Pass (South-West) and the other following our tracks back up towards Oberwald.

2. Our Glacier Express train pulls into Stalden station. The town is situated in a strategically important position, at the foot of the Saaser and Matter valleys. The road here splits, with road access to the exclusive car-free ski resorts of Saas-Fee and Zermatt.

3. Our train runs alongside the road towards Tasch. Here, everyone must leave their cars in the newly built multi-story car park and board the shuttle trains to the resort of Zermatt.

Finally, our train arrives in its final destination, Zermatt. In the shadow of the famous Matterhorn, connections can be made to the Gornergrat mountain railway, which transports skiiers high up to the Gorner glacier.

I hope you have enjoyed travelling on the Glacier Express ! :)

Ah.. Those are beautiful shots mate! :)

Big-Glis station looks a bit weird with those loops and the 90 degree turn though. I can live with 2x45 ones, but NOT 90.
