[OBJ] Website - Graphics

Post by Purno »

This objective is to create prototype graphics for the website. The graphics should only be ideas, not the final versions. They should be just designs that we can view in the next meeting and decide upon and so that we can ensure they'll fit the chosen layout of the website. It is easier to change the colour schemes of the website rather than the graphics, so you should concentrate on making the graphics look great, rather than worrying about the current website design.

Members: Purno

I made some graphics layouts I want to show you.

EDITED by Hyronymus to match other posts, no offence to you Purno ;).

I think it looks a bit too shiny. You have lost the nice simplicity of the original design. The amount of images might also be a problem. With a simple design you can create A LOT of things with CSS, rather than downloading images.

The shininess in the first isn't a problem IMO but I wonder how easy you can code that (in PHP). I don't like the second option at all though, the colours don't match and the screen is too bright. Have you been busy with other experiments Purno (or has someone else been busy)?

I hope someone can help produce graphics for my modified version of Zuu's website template.

http://www.phoenixscripts.co.uk/tempire/steve/home.php

We won't need any gifs for the tables or anything, but a logo for the Transport Empire header or a redesign of the left logo may be appreciated!

I'm not sure that logo fits the current design of my site, especially not the colour scheme. However, I do think it'd fit a more 'cartoony' version (which wouldn't be bad), with a more green theme. Later i'll upload the code for my site you can mess with the colours yourself and hopefully make something work.
It may be worth losing the border on your sign and just using the entire top area as a fake road sign kind of thing.

The site is attached.

Due to IE not liking transparent PNG images, you'll have to open logotrans.png and add your own background colour and save it as logo.png.

I'd like to see a photo of a road sign similar to the logo. The arrows look kind of weird, and when making a road sign it should look as real as possible, IMO.

I prefer the style with the logo in the centre and the top background the same as the bottom background (border-center-green.PNG). But the top looks a little empty round the sides. On the original design, that weird lightning, whilst having no relevance, looks cool and helps to fill in the gap. Perhaps a similar thing or a simple texture can help fill in the gaps at the top?

If you put the logo to the left you can fill the space to the right with a line of text, i.e.: 'The Open Source succesor to Transport Tycoon Deluxe'. If you spread that out over two lines and pick a nice colour you would get a nice header.

On a sidenote: TheMaster, can you create a square version of your road sign with just the letters TE? If that looks nice & readable we can use that as our icon for TE (to be clear: an icon is the image you see in shortcuts to executables i.e.).

I can try to make them, but need icon sizes.
I have found these:
* 16x16 4 bpp
* 32x32 4 bpp
* 48x48 4 bpp
* 16x16 8 bpp
* 32x32 8 bpp
* 48x48 8 bpp
* 16x16 32 bpp
* 32x32 32 bpp
* 48x48 32 bpp
but i'm not sure.

If Transport Empire don't have slogan i suggest this:
"Choose the way of your success"

Icons: You only really need to supply a 32x32 icon and perhaps a 64x64 for XP. Windows can automatically make the smaller sizes. It is sometimes helpful to make special smaller ones to remove detail, if necessary.

I'm not sure we need to stick to proper road signs. There is no point in doing so if you want make a better image by other means. It may be worth experimenting in positioning and direction of arrows to help use the space.

And I'm not too fond of the text linking to TTD. This won't be very much like TTD. It may bring in some punters, but perhaps too much of the influence too.

I think the arrows on the sign still could use some work.

OK, a different text then perhaps but do you like the idea Steve? I like your icons, TheMaster along with the darker sign.

EDIT: different text suggestion: the Open Route to transport simulation.
