Is this project still active? I would really love the Constellation. It seems kind of silly to only have the DC-3 for nearly 20 years... then to get the Viscount, and have the Comet immediately make its obsolete one year later!

I haven't got enough time for Loco modding (haven't got for a few months now...) so if anyone wants to animate the models that I've done, I can send them. I also modded the train-animation-template to fit aircraft, so it would be a matter of importing, resizing & re-paletting the images.

I decided to revive this project IF this works with aircraft. If not, I can give someone my ready-to-animate templates & how to use them.

I've done a few new aircraft models, but I'll let you guess what they are ;)

If you want to have a go at some plane-"spotting", do not read ahead until you have identified the aircraft below!

Oh, one thing I need: aircraft stats. I can get the stats easily but what about purchase/running costs? The ones I'm doing (again, IF that works) are:

- DC-9
- MD-80
- A300-600ST (Beluga)
- An-225 (Mriya)
- Vicker Vimy (Passenger Bubble Version)
- Il-62
- Boeing 377 Stratocruiser
- Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation
- ATR-42
- ATR-72
- Boeing V-22 Osprey (Although this might take awhile)

OK, I created my very own stat calculator for the aircraft. Now I think I'll code it with Basic 8)

Code: Select all

buydivider = 500
rundivider = 3000

if it carries cargo, then rundivider + 300
if it can be refitted, then buydivider - 120
if its Soviet/Russian/Prototype, then buydivider + 80
if its Soviet/Russian/Prototype, then rundivider - 400

buycost={[(passenger * 2) * speed] + (reliability + weight) * 2} / buydivider
runcost={[(passenger * 2) * speed] + (reliability + weight) * 2} / rundivider

Aircraft Stat Calculator.zip
Inside is a very simple exe made with Basic. Now start running it through your favourite planes & post the costfact's here!

I now have everything ready to start mass-produceing aircraft ready! A script for rendering, background swapping, re-paletteing & stat-createing means that I only have to model the plane and then push a few buttons 8)

The aircraft won't be as good-looking as I want them to, because the loco palette can't be changed and only has 256 colours, of which many are reserved for company colouring. So especially the large ones will look a bit like the grapics from old 16 colour games... Blame Chris S. on that ;)

The DC 9 is unreliable but is reasonably fuel efficient (I think it has 3 pilots though)
The MD eighty is bigger and more efficient with 2 pilots.
The Il 62 will have very dogey relibility mainly because it is russian it will also be completly unfuelefficient.
But not shore about the others.

alistairgrew wrote:very dogey relibility mainly because it is russian
:lol: I actually did LOL with that :D
I do think that most of the poor reliabilities of Russian aircraft come from the poor maintaince they recieve aswell as the conditions they fly at (with over 1000 planes flying everyday into more than 200 destinations, of wich perhaps 4 have decent runways = not good for aircraft ;)) make them so... scary to fly with :P

Yeah I'm making the Russian aircraft have -10/-15% reliabiliy when compared to western aircraft. Also, the running costs will be higher, but the purchase cost lower (by the same 10-15%)

Here's a quote from a PM I sent Steve asking if I could edit & include his airport pack: "Sure, I always wanted someone to make new graphics"
And what he said when I asked about the cargo airport he was planning: "I got further than planning it, but it took a while to make and I had lots of other things which I had to do"

So let's pressure Steve to create the cargo airport as I'm releasing quite a few cargo aircraft aswell as passenger ones (Me 323 ring a bell anyone? ;))

EDIT: Oh yeah, screenshots:

Notice the clipping problems. They're loco's problem, not mine. And they show themselves only when the aircraft is stationary.

They are slightly different colored than the original Lomo ones, but good enough to publish.

The stats are the last to come. Everyone likes pretty pictures instead of stats eh? :P

Anyway, now the next problem is the rotating propellers on the prop aircraft. I'll have to start looking into them soon...
