Noisy sound or sound lowering volume (solved)

Post by Samu »

I have a problem with sound. I'm using Windows XP 32-bit and my sound card is a Creative Sound Blaster Live!.

I installed the game and applied the 1.76 patch. The game couldn't run, so I downloaded a no-cd patch. The game now runs but the sound quickly fades away when I'm building stuff, untill I no longer hear anything, except train or trucks engines looping sounds and the music.

If I turn the forced buffer on, the sound works fine, but sometimes it becomes jerky, really noisy, as if it was reading some corrupted sound, I have to mute it or to disable the forced buffer.

Anything I can do to fix this problem?

It may have something to do with the no-cd crack. I know that I don't trust everything on the web and there could be bugs or glitches involved. Although the cd cracks are something that doesn't like to be discussed on the forums.

That's your problem right there.
If a fresh install off a genuine Locomotion CD won't run, then you have to solve that problem FIRST!!

A general rule of computing is : Never patch or attempt an upgrade of a program that's misbehaving, unless the patch is specifically intended to fix that misbehavior.

If it were me I'd ...
1. Uninstall the game completely, and delete any leftover directories. Optional: Search registry for Locomotion-related entries and delete them all.
2. Reinstall off a GENUINE CD. Run the game.
3. If it runs OK, only then install the 1.76 patch.
4. If it misbehaves after #3, then I'd suspect your patch exe is corrupted.
It may have something to do with the no-cd crack . . .
I doubt it. I've been using that patch since it first became available and have no problems. Same system OP described - except for the sound card.
Corral those nutty peeps with a Boundary Fence
Replace wimpy steamer sounds with Steamer Sound Kit
