[32bpp] Trains of the World

Post by Hyronymus »

It was suggested by me some time ago and finally I got the spirit to kick it off:

The Trains of the World in 32bpp

The idea is to come with the first comprehensive 32bpp vehicle set for OpenTTD, based on the trains that made their way to the original Trains of the World (2cc / normal) set. After having talked to both Planetmaker and DJ Nekkid we feel confident the original code can be used with 'just' new sprites. The engines included in the original set can be found here in detail: http://users.tt-forums.net/2cc/vehiclelist.html

So what has been drawn actually or what can be used as a basis for this set? Who are willing and able to submit work to this set, a set that will be released under the GNU General Public License version 2 or any compatible license.

And to kick off this question: should we go for 2CC?

This model can be useful:
http://jupix.info/openttd/gfxdev-repo/i ... file&id=28

It was very simple, It doesn't have modeled windows, They was added with the texture.

You can use It freely.

Nice, looks like we got a first entry then :).

I see you made stuff for LoMo, how is that useable for OTTD?

All the trains made for locomotion are included in Spain Set for OpenTTD. :D

The only problem of my models is that their style could be different than other models from other authors.

Hmm, style is indeed something we need to define. With pixel art it was rather easy but now we can have more details in our models.

It is not necessary for NewGRFs to follow the base set replacement guidelines though. However, the lighting setup that we'll be using will most likely be the best option for most NewGRFs.

But I think it will yield a nice consistency throughout the game and that is worth a lot.

It's strange though that were models seemed OK-ish for size in pixel art they look tiny in 3D. They really look 'cropped' and I wonder what that means for level of detail in those views.

Poll results show an interest in a 2CC release. Sadly though we have no artists who are willing to draw stuff. Maquinista did offer his model of the RENFE class 594 though, which makes the first entry for this set.

So to all you artists I say: please check the list of vehicles I want to include and claim a model!

Thx maquinista :). Size doesn't seem a real issue with MU's fortunately.
